I know that in Germany it is somewhat "normal" that bombs that didn`t exploded during the war to be found and to be destroyed but that bomb is just impresive...
Here in Spain it still possible that bombs that during our civil war didn`t exploded to be found on the fields but, obviously, in a minor scale.
As a joke I read somewhere in the news that there was an old man who fought in the spanish civil war, he had an old mauser at home and he was with the riffle in his hand, his hand began shaking as he was rather old, the gun went off and the bullet went through the wall and killed a horse that was in the stable next room
.

Re: Incredible evacuation in Germany due to to WWII bombs.
Sorry to go off-off topic here but this article reminds me of the facility that my uncle, now deceased, was stationed at as an MP in West Germany during the 1970s. If anyone has seen the movie "Buffalo Soldiers" with Joaquin Phoenix, it was basically a real-life version of the nuclear storage site portrayed in the movie. I'm curious if anyone knows the current status of this facility and/or where it may have been located. Unlike the movie portrayal, security was incredibly tight and the facility apparently stored Honest John, Nike-Hercules, and Lance warheads, as well as low-yield artillery rounds. I'm told the facility is long gone, but not real sure about it.

We have a former WW2 German Air Force Airfield next to the place I live. They had the famous ME262 over here that caused a lot of American air raids.
As a commanding paramedic I respond aprox. twice a week to a bomb defusing...

That looks like some pretty dangerous work, I sure hope you guys get extra pay for doing that. I have another uncle, still alive, who started in the Air Force as a crash/fire fighter, then he received special training for dealing with damaged/burning chemical agent munitions (which I thought we no longer have
) he was in Guam for awhile.

Re: Incredible evacuation in Germany due to to WWII bombs.
After WW2, the US Army overtook that airfield and "Mission Compled" was in 2006.
Now it´s a civil airfield and "we" are responisble for digging out all the unexploded bombs.
By now the EOD team defused a total number of 120 American bombs.
We don´t get extra paid for, as we had the war in our own country left overs are normal to us...
