Today the postman brought me a parcel from Canada: CADPAT rain suit

just in time for this: Current view!

We got snow coming down to the London area in next 48 hours..

Earliest snow since 1992-3

Its going to be a hard winter I think.

A BMW in the standard antracite grey.. and a BMW in the optional colour "Schneetarn".
I had my first snow about 3 weeks ago in Germany.. wet snow though, melted on impact with the ground

This is the first "real" snow.. of the year.. I expect quite some snow again. Last winter was the coldest one I actually "lived through" to remember (In the 80s/90s they had the same temps.. but I was to little to remember)..

Last year I spend the coldest period in a tent in the German Eifel, well I spent 4 days in the coldest week.
That was cold enough.. Planning to do something for this winter. If I can get my finances straight, I might go to Romania for the winter SAR training in February.

The Canadians intended that digital pattern first



MARPAT is a "copy" of CADPAT.

It´s a Goretex fabric

It's quite an effective camo in dense needle ánd normal leaf forrests. It only hasn't got enough brown for use on the ground with open needle forrests or autumn / winter situaties. I like the pattern verry much though, it's only one of the few digital ones that I like.

I however prefer Flecktarn and it's danish (green) cousin.



The digital pattern however, are said to have much better anti-nightvision capabillities.
Especially ACU is supposed to be "perfect" against night time detection. The dark spots on conventional camo is vissible as large black parts on nightvision, on digital camo patterns, the use of black spots is smaller, and better scattered making it look more natural.

I still don't know what the little pixels do better then round spots (look up micro flecktarn), but I guess that's just a trend to make it look modern to be "ready for the future".

I also saw some camo tests, but I can't find the link anymore. It was made by the Bundeswehr, and they even made a digitallized version of flecktarn and wüstentarn (woodland and desert). But they limited the use of black a bit. And made the wüstentarn in 5 colours aswell, instead of the usual 3.

But Housil.. Now you'll have to repaint your car..

Seems the USMC had the right idea in 1999-2000, and the rest of the US military just kind of fumbled along right after.

If it's true that the US did the R&D stuff and then rejected it, then they REALLY rejected it. Because the USMC licensed the design from the Canadian Armed Forces.
I absolutely love the ADPAT design. I just bought a set of combats.... love it. But my cousin was involved in the testing of several different patterns and during those tests, they discovered that our old, tried and true plain green combats offered just as good camouflage as any of the camo tested including the CADPAT. I said, "If that's true, why change?" He said, "Well, it looks cool, doesn't it?"
When Canada went to war in Afghanistan, we had just started integrating the new design and the first troops who went over, went there with the woodlands CADPAT. It wasn't until much later that they started sending the arid pattern over. And I've seen very recent photos of guys wearing the arid cadpat combats, and woodland cadpat body armor.

Even though CADPAT and MARPAT work better than ACUPAT, I still think Multicam is king.
