Chinese rations evolution
I was not sure if this belonged anywhere else in forum, so putting it here. I was recently talking with my uncle who is a Korean War veteran, and he told me about the time that he was wounded and cut off from his unit. Somehow he managed to get picked up by a Red Chinese army medical unit, who treated him well and saved his life. He told me that they had rations which consisted of rice balls and some kind of noodles with fish which were wrapped in a funny kind of paper. I'm just wondering if anyone has info on specific Chinese PLA ration menus from present or if it is just the food bars that were shown in the international rations pics.
Re: Chinese rations evolution
The PLA has grown leaps and bounds in technology and the same as food for its huge army.
Just thinking that they only eat rice and noodles like back in the days of the Korean war is obsolete...
They have the same concept as our military MRE's.They have gone so far in copying the color and even imitating the logos of their rations packaging.
well we all know they simply copy what they need either from the russians and now from the US.
Here are some pics of the different PLA rations i have found on the web...Hope it helps.

Your account got me thinking. Lots of Korean war stuff that the Chinese (and early 50s VC/NVA) used was often ex Japanese equipment. Many pic of early VC /NVA units look straight out of the WW2 Pacific campaign. Also much equipment, caps, mess kits were directly copied by the Chinese after 1945.
Im wondering if the Chinese also captured/copied this
It closely fits you uncles description.
Just a thought. BTW the myth that Japanese forces rations were somehow primitive is way off line.
The variety and sophistication of Japanese ration and specialised food packets and suppliments in the 1940s was more advanced than the US programme. Probably the most advanced in the world. It was only when their supply lines by sea were fatally interdicted than the Japanese ration outlook became dire.

BB you're right there is always a misconception that the japanese forces and now the chinese were backwards and only fed their troops "rice".

Guys,
Those are great photos! Gives us a better look into the Chinese PLA and their feeding program. When did the PLA start copying our MRE's and putting them on the market or putting them out on the web?
