Hi all!

I am curious to know what American civilian food items our overseas members like besides MRE items:

Things along the line of:
Tabasco sauce, different hot sauces, SPAM-now in different flavors, instant food products like Carnation Instant Breakfast, seasonings, beer and cigarettes.

Have any of our American members ever traded U.S. food items overseas and what did you find is a popular trade?

On our last visit, we spent $214 in a Wal-Mart Supercenter...

Just curious housil, are there any Walmarts or similar stores in Germany and how do their prices compare to ours? Also curious are Mountain House camping foods available there? Any chain department stores there?

Tabasco, popcorn, spam (it's made in the Netherlands under the name SMAC), corned beef, maple syrup (or is that canadian?), mountain dew, jelly beans..

Nonfood:

Lucky Strike, and just about anything from Colt, Armalite, Bushmaster, Winchester, Barrett, Mossberg, Sabre Defence and Ruger.. along with some singeuse items from Lake City ordnance plant..



About the wallmarts, there are things like there overhere (mostly in Germany and France) but not as many as in the US..
Also, they offer different things.. like we don't sell guns in our local stores, haha..

Also, wallmart tends to put it below all other prices (large actions etc) but the European market simply works a bit different..
Things that might be cheap in the US, might be expensive here, and the other way around..

There are no Walmarts in Germany. I knew this was happening for a while since my wife works with them and she mentioned me several times they were having trouble with their stores in Germany. They lost billions of dollars and they took their losses and left with their tail behind their legs...
They couldn't get to the german consumer like they do here.

We have "supermarktes" too. The prices are similar. Some stuff is cheaper in the USA, some stuff is cheaper over here.

I´m so sorry that particular "Mountain House" isn´t available over here. Thx to kman, he gave me the possibility to try some and Mountain House food is awesome!!!
Chain department stores?! I didn´t know you have German ALDI in USA too.

Daniel is right.
Walmart went out of German business when their company politics became public over here and they lost several trails at court. They broke German law with their labor contracts.

We have ALDI here but there are not too many stores. I have one close to were I live and is good to go from time to time but it has to compete with a Walmart Supercenter close by....
Although Walmart( aka Chinamart ) right now is having trouble with the smaller retailers and grocery stores because they are selling cheaper than tham and people are not going to WM too much due to the recession.so for this reason WM is reinventing itself going back to basics...to its roots.

the uk is the most "americanised" country I would say. This is due to history and geography I would argue
Therefore we have adopted or admire some of the good (and not always so "good" things )

Maglites
Peanut butter - nutella is uneatable
New York deli Jewish food can still be found in the East End of London, and Blooms (A restaurant, would not be out of place in "old" NY)
A Danish canning co. called spinnaker was making canned chowder a while back.Excellent. It was popular but too expensive.
Guns?? This is the UK. Someone might get hurt! Only criminals and terrorists are allowed guns
Pastrami and salt beef.
Bagels
Hersheys still have "novelty value" here, but there is much anger at the Kraft takeover of Cadburys
US desserts, cheesecakes, mississipi mud pies, banoffee..
Harley Davidsons
Jeeps
Florida
Baked beans

Most american foods are heavily influenced by our (Dutch, british, german, irish, italian, kosher) kitchen..
So, we like to most of it.. except for the abnormal greasy stuff

Welshs grape soda
Hersheys peanut butter cups
Cheese filled prezels
