Excellent movie! I don't claim to be a ww2 expert but if I'm not mistaken, that incident (assuming it was true) took place after the incident of the Sullivan brothers being killed on that ship that was sunk, resulting in a policy of not allowing members of the same family to serve in the same unit. Anyone who knows more about this please chime in as again I have no expertise in ww2 events.

SPR was a fictional story surrounding an actual event - WWII

But what's not fiction and oft not circulated is that Steven Spielberg was the producer/creator
behind the Medal of Honor series of games based on said movie.

Bought it for €27.. (normal price for blu rays around here..) and it's worth the money.. superb sound, with 5:1.. to bad I didn't have a 7:1 set on the beach scene..

There has been a recall of Saving Private Ryan Blu-ray Sapphire series. Paramount is working to issue replacement discs. A problem with the audio track is being reported.
