At Ebay Germany is a Stove Gasoline



Can someone give any recommedations if it´s worthy to bid on it or was it the biggest crap every issued...

A friend of mine had one, and said it would burn just about anything, but you shouldn't use it indoors..
You have to really like liquid burners like that, they tend to smell with warmer weather (when they are not burning)
Especially when they get older..

Those burners though are relatively popular ones, so I think you should be alright.. I can't give you an price indication, but I would prefer a modern gas burner or over the older liquidfuelburning burners..

Gas is

- cheaper burners
- easier to store (you simply stack some cans; liquid should be kept in cannisters)
- safer (doesn't leak that fast)
- less smell / fume problems so you can use it indoors.. at home
- easier to cook (even when the liquid burners are controllable, gas types are easier to control)
- burns more efficiently.. (heats faster)

But, on the otherhand, if your making an "end of the world" kit like some members here are making;

Liquid fuel is

- Easier to obtain then gas (you can simply use car fuel)
- cheaper fuel
- will work even when it's broken (as long as all seals are intact and it doesn't leak)
- your not depending from canned gas (it's probably one of the first things that gets looted if a major katastrophe strikes)
- you can use it as a heating source (they don't use their energy effective, so they emit a lot of useless heat in the room)
just be sure not to leave it on, just for a short while, because of fumes and such.

I don't recall the URL right now, but a few years back, I think someone posted a link to a military stove website. Much like MREInfo.com is about rations, this site was all about military stoves. You might be able to google around and find it.

How much is "over the topp" for you?

They sell for around €100 in perfect state on Dutch auction sites.. €50 for ugly ones.. and €100-125 for "new" surplus ones.. but they don't show up so often..

That mountian stove is still around in the US military inventory, though its not as popular as some of the civilain ones. I remember using one in Desert Storm and finding that I had to do a lot of pumping just to get the damn thing lit! And the fuel control was tricky but it warmed up a cup of coffee in 3 minutes once I got the hang of it. It's a nice item to have around and a good backup because it will burn jsut about anything! Though I'm not sure how you would properly clean one since regular gas doesn't burn as clean as the others.

BTW- is there a manufacturing date printed on the carton?

I was intereseted as a firs line item to heat up food on my mechanized hikes. ESBIT stove and FRH are a back up "only", but I use it always.

The Ebay auction pic´s say 1973 at it. So it´s a rooky stove
