i dont think many people do this anymore since the cold war is gone away.
we did this kind of things a lot when the us army and usmc was here
on exersices, first we did trading with them to get mres and gear
than we had our own exersices. mostly arctic ones :D

cheers from norge :D

Is this a Cold War "Operation Grief"? From the 1980's? I think there may be a few Nato officials, that would like a word with you.

Hahahahaha....... (sorry for laughing  )

Greif was against the enemy - we were WITH the US troops - especially when they begged us in the fields to buy "stuff" for them at the local supermarket. (1 bottle of "stuff" = one case of MCI´s etc.)

What do you think from where we got all that new US equipment?!?
From them! We swaped it in the fields for e.g. let them (a whole platoon!) sleep at our house 1st floor (instead under the river bridge) or a plate of warm Bratwurst with Sauerkraut (for eveybody!) or...

Greif was also with the americans
(Ok, they blew up bridges, gave americans the wrong directions, stole supplies etc.. :D but there are just minor details)

It's always funny to beg with soldiers, it's almost a sport.
you can get all kinds of nice stuff, actually at all training fields..

Our dog always like foxholes and people in camouflage clothing.. when she walks through the lines, she always walks from foxhole to foxhole, and she always gets crackers with "kippencrème" (chickenpaste) from the dutch ration.. nobody likes it..

Normally if you ask people, they're not very reluctant to give you MRE items like beverages or meals.. as long as they still have enough for themselves

Back in the 80th, "...when everything was better..." whe had manouvers in our forest´s, cities, everywhere. Called REFORGER

You came home and your whole little town was full of US or German troops, Jeeps, Tanks, helicopters etc...

Maybe a tank right in your driveway, taking cover under your barn...

those places were suddenly surounded by the locals as audiance, watching all that military stuff and activities and traded everything for everything...

Our whole county was a Field Training Exercise (FTX).

After the FTX, we "examined" all the places for "left overs", like:

also they never took their tent poles with them, always left hem behind (for us)
