Smith & Wesson M&P knives
Smith & Wesson M&P knives
Hey all...has anyone bought one of those Smith & Wesson M&P knives with the MAGIC assisted opening feature? I was a loyal Spyderco fan, but after breaking the tip off my 4th Spyderco blade (which cost over $79)...I decided to look for a cheaper alternative. I've actually sent 2 of my Spyderco knives back to the factory where they retipped and sharpened the knives I had with broken tips for $20 + shipping, but that's getting to be a very costly routine.
I saw the S&W M&P knives for around $39 online which sounds like a pretty good deal, but haven't been able to find a lot of reviews about them. Plus, I was a little hesitant since the older S&W knives usually came out of Taiwan and weren't really known for solid construction.

I have a CRKT M16-10KZ and I think it is the greatest knife I have owned. It is a bit small but you'll get used to it after a while. They are about 30 bucks and the opening is more of a lever on the back that you flick down. It takes a bit of practice to get the opening right but it does open fast once you get the hang of it.
Re: Smith & Wesson M&P knives
Depending on the use is the knife.....My faves are Buck's and Gerber's those have one one the best blades I have ever seen. They are durable and can hold plenty of "abuse".
Also have my ol' faithful KA-BAR.
(..not to confuse it with "chinese ripoffs"
)
I usually carry with me either a U.S army Camillus pocket knife for daily use or the new Bundeswehr Trekker pocket knife made by Victorinox.
Can wait to get the new swiss version for my collection...
Peace!

Thanks for the suggestions fellas...I like the CRKT and Gerbers, but I want to try out a cheaper alternative right now. I know, I know...you get what you pay for...but I found a pretty good deal on the S&W on ebay. I'll post some pics and a mini-review of it once I get it.

I've been thinking about getting a knife but British laws are a pain in the ***, they are so anti knife that its an offence to carry it in public place i.e. everywhere,I heard from a friend that one of his mates had a caution by the police for having a survial knife on his life vest in the boot/trunk of his car after he has been boating for the weekend, they said it was easily accessable and the blade was over 3 inches = criminal offence
Time to move to the US I think

Hey Garron,
I can't believe you get hassled over carrying a pocket knife in the UK. God Bless the USA. I can't even imagine walking out the door without a pocket knife...not for self-defense or anything, just for the practical, everyday need for a pocket knife. I guess we take it for granted that we can, for the most part, carry a pocket knife and not get hassled about it. Come to think of it, pretty much every dude I see walking on the street has that tell-tale sign of a knife clip hanging out of their pants pocket these days.
Don't you guys also have ridiculous gun laws in England as well???

Nope nothing, locking baldes are a definate no-no... you can buy them just not carry them... how dumb is that? If the blade is under 3inches I think its OK but you wouldn't want to chance it. I never carried, its a stigma to carry in the UK, knife crimes are pretty common and they have been demonised by the government as killing weapons.
Firearms law, o god its too complicated to explain its basically means, no semi autos (Pistols rifles or shotguns) No Fully Autos, Double barrel shotguns are ok... long process to get a licence and the guns cost a bomb. Bolt action rifles are OK, so Lee enfields, Mausers, Springfields, Mosins are ok plus the more glamourus Remingtons that type of thing.
You have to re-new the licence every few years and the police keep check ups. We used to be similar to the US, basically have anything you wanted except fully autos then we had a few nutcases pull guns on people and a few massacres later... very little allowed. Yet you could probably get whatever you wanted illegally on the black market though.
Yet you can can have the above if its a gunsmith and or you make a living renting weapons to re-enacters, films, TV that type of thing. Though getting that licence is pretty hard.
Apart from that that you can do what you want with in the limits.

Smith & Wesson Knife??? Thats like saying Martha Stewart brand BB guns. If you want a knife, stick with Cold Steel.
