It´s real winter over here

Post by housil » Fri Jan 09, 2009 2:48 pm

Our area is not famous for its winter.

Winter here means +2°C and rain...

Not this year, we have the coldest winter for the last 100years!

The coldest place was in east Germany (Leipzig) with ~-34°C yesterday.
Where I live, we are famous for wine, there are wine yards around our house, so we have -16°C "only".

As I had my last day "on call" today, someone else got the Audi Quattro and I could fetch my X3 out of the garage for some driving "lesson" :D

The Weather forcast said it was -2C in my area... its more like -5C.

Makes the some what thankful I'm not still in Germany.... I didnt take any heavy winter clothes with me just a light jacket and jumpers.

If it gets to those temps here in the UK the country will grind to a halt, the water was off for in my area for 2 days due to a 3/4 of a inch (2cm thich) cast iron water pipe froze and burst pumping water from the local resevior. Must have been very cold to freeze the water under that ammount of pumped pressure. (Estimate said about -17C as its around 1500ft above sea level or about 460 meters)

Luckily I have my Bundeswehr Parka, that should keep me quite warm.

I should really be looking at getting the East German Winter FDU... designed to handle the cold Eastern conditions.

Is -10 here, at Danube's Mouths, and the damn Russians cut off the gas supplies. But I don't give a damn, 'cause I have a wood burning stove and a bottle of fine rum...

I'm thinking this would be a bad time to talk about sleeping out on the beach last night.
