This is a first. May be the Generals way of saying screw you. After all, from what I hear, all the troops were finding in Iraq; all over the place; was pornography. So much for there so called laws.

I guess the mollahs said the US soldiers are allowed by the Quran to drink beer as long as they say "Hamdullah!" after they burp

That's pretty cool! I was glad to hear they were able to do that for the troops.

I remember Saturday night at sea with the USN - pizza and 'near beer'. No matter what the advertisements say, it never tastes like real beer, so this is a definite improvement. I'd say they've earned a cold one.

I wonder if this news suggests a reduction in the perceived level of threat to US forces?

I'm kind of glad the DoD was relaxing the rules a bit. When I was there in 04-05 it was totally asinine that the muslims could have bootleg liqour, pornography, and tons of other black market stuff in Iraq but we couldn't even have a decent beer one day out of our entire 18 month tour. We all had to make do with the "near beer" fake crap.

Baldy- I don't think it would seem like a preceived threat reduction for US troops but more of a easing up on the rules just on the bases. Just my opinion.

From someone whose been in theater that's a good and down to earth argument you make. I have heard this all before. In a land whose purported single goal of Islam is worship of a deity three times a day that leaves a lot to be desired.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not for an undisciplined fighting force. However, I would question the merits of a religion that in all its arcane rules and nature has clearly double-standards.

This hearkens back to Gulf 1 circa 1991.

Need I say more.
