Walking the „RING OF FIRE“, Vogelsberg, Hessen Germany

Post by mreheater72 » Sat Sep 06, 2008 3:01 pm

Hi guys,

last week my nephew and me take a hike on the trail “Vulkanring Vogelsberg” in federal state "Hessen", Germany. It is a nice hiking trail that circles the largest former vulcanic area in Europe. We need 4 days for the whole trail of about 125 km:

Yes, here are the day stages:

First day: Laubach-Helpershain about 31 km
Second day: Helpershain-Ilbeshausen about 32 km
Third day: Ilbeshausen-Gedern about 28 km
Fourth day: Gedern-Laubach about 34 km

After sleeping every night in another hotel or guesthouse we walked every day from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM, that’s 11 hours (with some short breaks for eating MREs :D ) for about 30 km, not a problem! About ten years ago I made some hiking tours at “Schwäbische Alb-Südrandweg (Donauwörth-Tuttlingen)” and “Main-Donau-Weg-Juralinie” (Staffelstein-Regensburg) with about 40 km a day! But I get a bit long in the tooth :) !

To play safe, that I wont´t stay hungry after a long walk, I decided only to take tan MREs when I pack my rucksack before the hike :) ! Darkbrown MREs are for eating at home only :) !
