Today I got my brand new, genuine USMC combat tent :

that is nice. when i was in when we were in the field we slept in shelter halves. i had one half someone else had the other half. you combine them. just basis shelter no floor in those.

The shelter halves are also still in use over here, called dachshund garage

I still have a US-tent

and some German Flecktarn also.

Nice thing is, you can attach more than just two together and operate a tommy cooker (or similar) inside for preparing hot beverages, entrees...

But I like that new dome tent with a waterproof floor, insect netting, storage nettings inside etc. and "hot" beverages aren´t required this often in a dessert area

Thats us 3 with shelter halfes at winter combat training:

We prefered to make a "U" shape than a whole tent and a half - give everyone same protection and "comfort"

My next goal would be a US-crew tent:

Go get you a handkerchief first...

The tent at Ebay UK for GBP 113 (= €146) and I got it with in 5 days!

Next bargain I got today:
A new ECWCS dessert for just €35

The most cool to me:

it came in a real american post box

Hey Housil!

Thats a great tent! I have the same one thats just made by Catoma instead of Eureka!

Those tents are awesome, it's great in the rain and they are durable as hell.

I still recommend a tarp to put underneath and protect the tent floor. The only places where a small leak happened during my 4 hour long rain test was at the seams of the rain fly where the velcro-loop attachments are, just take the seam glue and reinforce that area and you should be fine for any kind of weather.

The next tent I want to get is the Eco-tat, one-man Marine poncho-tent!! If I can find one for under 500bucks LOL

Hey Housil!!

I like that Eco-tat from the website you showed me but I actually want the full "Freedom Shelter" TMP kit. It's a tent, poncho, bivy, short and long jacket, hide and so much more. The worse thing is that their so damn expensive and hard to find. I would sell my Catoma tent to get one of those things!!!

And how did you stake the tent down??? I got confused with that

....do the straps on your tent have two grommets and a plastic buckle? What do you do with the small cord on the tent peg???

I got the tent staked but, I definitely didn't do it right

First of all, pitch inner tent:

you don´t need any tent pegs. The (inner) tent is free standing. Just plug the stakes in. It will work like a put up umbrella.

The rainfly is attached with four, adjustable "plastic buckles" to the inner tent.
There are some more "loops" where you can put the tent pegs thru.
They don´t have a "D-"ring. The cord at the tent pegs is to pull the pegs out of the ground again.

I guess the Catoma tent is a little bit different, isn´t it?

I really like to test it soon! But it became pretty warm (actually "hot") real quick inside

I can´t imagine to stay inside during day time some where in the dessert like
