I was just at the local grocery store (Food Lion) tonight and while in the "canned meat" (yum!) aisle, I spotted these delicacies. I don't know if this is a Southern thing or if everyone has this stuff...I just thought it was funny seeing them together:

You know, now that I think about it, I should have bought a can...just to gross you guys out. But thinking that one all the way through, that means I would have had to actually open it up and heat it *myself*. Oh heck no...I don't think I can bring myself to do that.

Maybe I can send a can to norge to try out. :-)

I'll do it!!!! for the sake of science....lol
:D

I'm originally from Puerto Rico and we eat "pigs feet",but not pickled. We make a stew with them using potatoes, carrots, cabbage and other fixin's,plenty of spices all of it acompained with a nice pot of white rice made with pork salted back..... yummmmm!!!
In the Caribbean that's widely eaten.

The brains??? well i know that they are eaten mixed with scrambled eggs, peppers and onions("Cesos en revoltillo") and deep fried ("Cesos rebosados").... :D and yes I have tasted it.... :)

Here in the US they call it "brain sandwiches " and brain n'eggs.Even there is a recipe froma a N.Carolina senator on the internet(wikipedia)

Hungry anyone???!!   ....lol

Pigs Feet

Pigs feet are common in New York City.

At one time it was definitely popular. Grandpa used to eat them.
I never tried it.

But lamb I've tried and can say that it was real good.

That was a good pic however.

You can get pigs feet in the butcher in New York City.
Even in New York, if you know where to go, some places will even chop up a live chicken for you. If you can get fresh meat that way it's real good for you. The fresher it is the more nutrients it has retained.

A year ago I visited Liberia and Sierra Leone, and I know some guys over there who actually had eaten brains. Although these were not necessarily pig brains... I will not write about details, but you can imagine what has happened during the wars... Yuck!

gulp!
:?
I've heard Kreuzfeld-Jacob (sp..?) disease started that way with cannibals eating human brain.
anyway...
In France the pig feet coated with breadcrumbs are very common. You can see them in any butcher shop or supermarket.
The lamb brain is very common too (just fried in butter), pig brain is generally considered very coarse and it's not very much appreciated.
