This just came in from the front and as usual I'm passing it along.

I ran into a few of these shirts on EBAy and I thought they were some cheap Chinese knock offs but, I later saw some pictures of special ops and front line troops wearing these shirts. It seems to be made to wear under the body armor system that our soldiers have. And they seem to be form fitting and tight. I have seen them with the ACU camo on the arms with the marine marpat brown colored body.

They were also priced at about 70-200 dollars.

Seemingly, they were also made to replace the Under Armor line of clothing which was very dangerous for use in the field because of its ability to catch fire and not be able to be removed.

Hey thanks for confirming that those shirts are issued equipment.
I thought at first they weren't but, then I saw pics of our soldiers wearing them so, then I became convinced then skeptical because I start to think they were posed shots of soldiers then I saw a pic of a op somewhere in Iraq with the shirt on. So, yeah it looks like they are used by our boys but, I'm still wondering if the DOD is giving these to the forces?

The Army Combat Shirt tag I've uploaded came directly from Iraq.
It's safe to say this is now issued gear. It provides better mobility and is designed around the high temperatures encountered in Iraq.

Is it really issued gear or is it one of those things that soldiers buy themselves and are allowed to wear?

Either way it's a tax write off.

It was developed at the Army's request by Massif Mountain Gear Company in an effort to create a lightweight, breathable, flame-resistant shirt for wear under body armor in really hot weather. The torso is a super light, stretch fabric, while the sleeves provide added protection but are still breathable.
