GI shot by swat

Post by housil » Fri Mar 14, 2008 10:30 am

A 30 yeard old GI from Schweinfurt/Germany

http://www.schweinfurt.army.mil/sites/local/

has stolen a M4 w/ night vision, 40 rounds, a bullet proof vest and took his girlfriend as a hostage after intruding in her house, bounding her hands etc.
She could escape and call police, so the GI left "into the night".
A police helicopter found the GI with his night vision camera hiding in a trench in the fields.
He start shooting at the approaching swat-officers (German = SEK) and a firefight occured.
The GI was hit in the chest and rushed to Schweinfurt Hospital for a life saving surgery, but died this early morning.

Anything else this nightshift?!

Oh ja, I got 23 entrees for free on nightshift :D

housil, did that happen around your area? I saw the news about this incident this morning. CNN was reporting the news as "German SWAT officers kill US soldier"...which I thought was a rather leading headline. It probably should have been something more like "German SWAT officers kill crazy US Soldier" or "German SWAT officers kill rampaging US Soldier". The first headline made me think that German SWAT was just going around shooting random US Soldiers but I knew there had to be more to it.

I guess the truth is to "unpopular" for a headline...
Let´s wait if they (Army) will report how he got the M4 and life ammo from the armory or prefer to smother

I think the headline was more a case of them trying to make it sensational so people would pay attention.

Even worse was how they said that the soldier had an "assault rifle"...which was another way of saying "see how bad assault rifles are?". What they neglected to mention until almost the end of the story was how the soldier had stolen all the equipment from his base.

The incident was in Koenigsberg/By :

Right now I read at the (German) news that "...the GI didn´t returned his M4 back to the armory after his duty (Thursday). He kept it (until Friday) and all his equipment to take it outside the installation against all regulations..."

See (in German):

The HQ of the "Big Red One" is just 5 min far from me at Leighton Barracks, Wuerzburg, Germany. I can see it from my office window.

The GI was from 2nd Brigade, located in Schweinfurt.
