im not a nutjob but a revolution is coming!
im not predicting the end of the world or anything. but the end of the world is coming. our country will be hit with a nuclear weapon that will cross our south border. it will be a suitcase bomb or short range missile. it will probably target houston tx as it is a very large city fairly close to the border. there will be casualties in the millions. there will be martial law declared. urbanites will flee to the hillsides where they will be massacred. neighbors will turn on each other. the people that prepared for this willl either flourish or become victims of the new civil war. after the dust we will need to rebuild our country and the planet. using the copy of the federalist papers, declaration of independance, u.s constitution i will play my part in reclaiming the country that was built by our forefathers. we will then replay the revolutionary war only on a global scale.

I'm not convinced that an attack such as the one you describe would cause the downfall of the country. Sure, people would panic initially and would flee major cities as they wait for more bombs to go off. But if it's just limited to one or two cities, I think the reaction would be similiar to 9/11 - world outrage - but on a much bigger scale this time. Initial panic would give way to a renewed zeal in ridding the world of religious fanatics/mass murderers like this.
People have become complacent in the 6.5 years since 9/11/2001. Terrorism is once again something that happens "over there" and as long as we can get the Hollywood writers back off their strike so they can write us more episode of "Desperate Housewives', then all will be right with the world...or at least our little portion of it. That's the sad state of affairs in the country today.
So far, it looks like our intelligence agencies have been doing a fantastic job of keeping the WMD-wielding terrorists from doing their thing in our country. Complain all you want about Homeland Security and the CIA and waterboarding and FBI wiretaps, but when was the last terrorist attack here? Exactly. I'm not saying I'm for or against everything those agencies have done, I'm just saying look at the results. But as usual, now that we feel safe, now that we feel comfortable, we're asking those agencies to back off and stop being so aggressive.
If the intelligence and law enforcement agencies back off and start playing "nice" with the terrorists and no more attacks happen, then I would be pleased as punch. No complaints at all. I really do hope that's the way things work out. But I'm not convinced that's the way things will actually work out.

No one wants another terrorist attack here...or anywhere for that matter. I don't think one or two a-bomb/dirty-bomb attacks would bring about the downfall of the country to even an internal civil war. Now something like the situation in the TV series "Jericho" is another situation. See...those Hollywood writers can be good for something.

Yeah, if Houston was hit hypothetically, it wouldn't be TEOTWAWKI. It would be annoying, disrupt shipping etc., but life would go on. No matter how big they couldn't undo the underlying infrastructure. Trucks would still roll in to bring supplies, power would still work, etc. If you wanna read something that'll scare the pants off of you, read Lights Out by Halffast. It's on frugalsquirrels.com, I think you have to login to read it, but it's just a forum, and it sounds like it might be right up your alley. It wasn't a bad read, but there are a lot of very nice co-incidences in it.. but the characters are easy to identify with, and he does a reasonable job of talking about what COULD happen if the government chose to handle it a certain way.. the only problem is that everyone gets along too well which would never happen.

Kman=the voice of reason.
If Al-qaeda/Iran/hezbollah/whoever used nukes or dirty bombs in the west especially America it would be a death sentence for them and their allies.
The same as 9/11 Bin laden really didnt think America would come after him, he totally underestimated you and IMO made a major mistake.
Japan survived two atomic attacks at a time when it was already bombed heavily, Im sure America or any western nation would survive similar.
Yes it wold cause chaos, but fall of civilization? I doubt that.

of course that was a gross exaggeration i just wanted to see how it would be replied to. i just read a book called wildfire by nelson demille it was an awesome book and it inspired that post. if anyone is interested in reading i will mail it too you if you pay the shipping. i wont need it back i only read a book once. after you read it you could pass it around. my main worries are about the suitcase bombs that russia "lost". it plausible that 10 or so of those could be moved around the country and detonated all at once in several different cities. it is a complex logistical manuever but we should not underestimate our enemies. if anyone is interested in the book just let me know.
