Hello guys,

For quite some time I've been looking for ways to prepare your own rations/ store food in cans/pouches DIY style.

I finally found someone selling a 'new' sealing device (plier) from the former West German army, to seal pouches. But I have no pouches.

My questions to you are:
* Who is preparing his/hers own rations, like storing food in a can/pouch (DIY style)?
* Where could I get tools and material (cans, pouches) to make my own rations (store food in can/pouch)?

Any help and information is welcome.
Kind regards from the NL,

Nawt.

do you mean the pouches like the silver "dehydrated egg mix"-pouches?

Yes indeed German_EPA,

Pouches like those or the silver pouches from the British rats are the one that I had in mind.

DIY rations

You can try packaging DIY meal items in a vacuum-sealed storage pouch. You can buy this at most large stores such as WalMart or Target, or off the web.

Basically, it's a roll of plastic hooked up to a vacuum pump & a heat sealer. Place your items inside, then vacuum & seal; I would then place it inside a heavy-duty zip closed freezer bag. I would also recommend microwaving or boiling the pouched food first, just before vacuuming & heat sealing.

Be careful and take sterile precautions, and use the DIY ration ASAP.

Thank you donaldjcheek,

My idea was also to boil the food first prior to sealing.
I'll be visiting Canada next month and will see what 's available at Wallmart. Within the NL I'd still have to look for a place to purchase such items.
