My neighbor went to the event in Rutland today. He said there were two lines and one line was receiving the cases as shown by the press (SoPakCo with green printing) but he was ushered into the other line. That line was for Chef 5 Minute Meals. He said once he pulled up the soldiers and airmen took merely a minute to load his car and send him on his way. Of course I had to go look and see:

Wow. I have been through several large quakes, the Rodney King-Los Angeles riots, and the Hanukkah Eve Windstorm Blockout in WA and never gotten a hand out of MRE's. Something to look forward to I guess now that I'm closer to the hurricane-ridden coasts.

I got some free rations from the NG in NYS during Hurricane Sandy. Don’t recall documenting it though. Turned out it was more than needed.

Had a friend who related to me some tragic stories of the Rodney King Riots. Started writing down some experiences of tragic events of my own, so as to not forget them entirely which can happen.

I'm an amateur radio operator, and while I don't do much with emcomm (emergency communications), there is a dedicated group of individuals in the local community who are very active, well trained and ready to go at a moment's notice. They traveled to LA during the Katrina event, and came home with in-date cases of US MRE's that were handed out during that crisis. It was the first time I had seen crossover between these two interests of mine, and I was impressed by the fact that the rations being handed out were in-date, not commercial, and not the unwanted low-sodium crap. I mean, food is food when you're starving, but the fact that government was handing out the best of what they had impressed me. Fast forward to the Covid event, and, well, yeah. The current distribution has definitely lived down to my expectations.....

Hi Zed, I responded to Katrina (I'm an insurance guy) and you HAM radio guys helped us out a ton. At that time we didn't have the observation choppers/planes and drones that we now use

I wish Team Rubicon was around back then, those guys partner with us, and are amazing... 99% Vets
