Feilen Danka, fur info. Gruss Gott!
Err, I hope that wink was because you were joking about that spelling... Vielen Dank, fÜr info. Not that anyone would bother to take as long as I did to find that stupid ASCII U.
The best trick I ever learned in German is that with the IE or EI, whatever the long vowel sound you're trying to make is should be the second letter. Scheisse = Shit (shy sa)
Schiesse = Shoot (she sa)

I have no idea how to speak German. I was told to say "Gruss Got" when passing any old ladies on the sidewalk, in town. I think it means "God is Good". They always said "Gruss Gott" back, so I guess it worked!

"Grüss Gott" is the "ordenary" greeting/salutaion in south (!) Germany (but has nothing to do with religion! Is just a heritage of tradition), like the "...how are you... or nice to ...meet you..." in english/US.
Norther Germany say "Guten Tag" (good day)
Next please
But, why do you salut in German?

I only knew "Guten Tag"
For Grüss Gott, it must be something like "Howdy" in Texas. The first time someone did salute me by a "howdy!", I had no clue about what that could mean and I certainly looked as stupid as Borat

Thanks for the clarification. I had never heard "Grüß Gott" being used before.
