I'm curious to know if the guy that packed the parachutes they gave to Cooper could remember if the chutes were round or square.
I kind of posted early on this thread if the chutes they gave Cooper were square or round. If they were round then this parachute find would kind of rule out that this chute was his, if they were square then we still don't have an answer. I looked at the CNN report and it still didn't clarify what kind of chutes the FBI gave Cooper.
Since this find was a round parachute, then okay, we can exclude this one and were back to square one. If it was square, as some skydiving parachutes might have been back then, then we don't have an answer. I guess somebody needs to go back and keep questioning the guy that packed the chutes, seems the FBI is not telling us everything or I might be missing something between the lines.

The parachute was found by kids a couple of weeks after the FBI agent in charge of the case did a media blitz trying to revive the story so as to generate new leads. What a coincidence. What really gave this story some credibility is that it was found in an area that the FBI had previously determined to be a likely landing zone, or impact zone, depending on your views. The money was found many miles away on the shore of the Columbia River. The theory is that Cooper impacted in north Clark County, WA, near a river that feeds into the Columbia and that is how the money made it to the river bank. Most everyone agrees that he died after jumping. It's no surprise that a body wasn't found as the area is mountainous and his remains were mostly likely scattered by animals.

kidsluvmres,
I don't doubt most of that, it would seem pretty plausible. Here's something else if the FBI already went through that area once don't you think that if DB did die on impact and the animals or whatever scattered his remains then something...maybe a bone might have ben left behind? I mean animals don't carry off everything in a kill something is left behind like a leg or shoulder blade or a pair of antlers. Somthing like that would have been seen at a later date.....

If he impacted somewhere in a ravine or near a mountainous river like they suspect, I doubt anyone would find anything. This is pretty much wilderness area with plenty of places that hiker and hunters would never traverse due to the steep and dangerous terrain. I think it's more likely that if he lived, the rest of the money would have shown up or he would have been caught by now. It's the rare crook who will do one big caper and then ride off into the sunset to enjoy their spoils.

kidsluvmres,
I don't know about DB being a "dumb crook" so to speak. I think he was pretty smart to begin with. I agree with your comment that there are very few smart crooks out there that do a job and fade away into the woodwork to enjoy the loot but this guy......I don't know.
This guy seems to have been pretty smart seeing as how nobody has found him to date. I surmise that this guy survived the jump. I mean how many crooks have been on the run for decades and never got caught? That's where I think this mystery is...he's somewhere nobody thinks to look and he HASN"T spent the money. That would be a obvious red flag to any law enforcement agency.

Exactly, Treesuit. Since the FBI said(thats another point) that the bills were marked, and/or known serial #'s, you think the guy would have been that stupid? as to start buying Caddy's in Montana, like Thunderbolt, when Lightfoot was die'ing. That was a cool flick by the way. That guy, DB, got the cash, then went to Mexico, and thense, further Sude. Yes, back then, American dollars could actually be used in South American countries. Thats what happened. Show me the bones, skeptics!
