Normally, I try to stay away from being too political on these forums. I have to be able to step into a flamefest (just noticed the one going on in the market crash thread...ouch!) and separate the combatants without anyone thinking I'm picking on them because of their viewpoint.

But seeing as it's election day, I'll let this slip...I was just reading Neal Boortz's (syndicated news radio guy) comments from his daily web posting. This part sums up a lot of how I see the election:

From: http://boortz.com/nuze/200811/11042008.html#election
So ... some Election Day thoughts:

Thanks, Republicans. This one belongs to you. The Republican Party completely abandoned its principles after the voter revolution of 1994. The GOP became the party of big spending and big government. Beltway Republicans became drunk on power and completely forgot why they were there. They gave us no real reason to go to the polls and vote for them save for that filibuster-proof Senate scare and the fear of what the election of a Marxist will mean to our freedoms.

Thanks, George Bush. Thanks for your spectacular lack of leadership on issues of spending and big government over the past two terms. You get all the credit in the world for keeping America safe from another terrorist attack ... but when a president signs a bill he thinks is unconstitutional (McCain-Feingold) just because he thinks the Supreme Court will straighten things out; and when a president introduces grand new entitlement programs (Medicare drug benefits) and fails to veto even one pork-laden spending bill ... well, the result is an uninspired electorate and ... Barack Obama.

Thanks, Government Schools. Back to that woman at the Obama rally: Does she really believe that once Obama is elected she won't have to worry about putting gas in her car or paying her mortgage? Yup, she probably does. Then we have those Harlem voters who think that Barack Obama did a fine job in selecting Sarah Palin as his running mate. This election, more than any I can remember, illustrates why Democrats are so determined to preserve our system of government education. American voters are, for the most part, spectacularly uninformed about the issues and the candidates they are voting for. Did I say "uninformed?" I meant to say ignorant. For the most part these people casting ballots today could not name their two U.S. Senators and their Congressman if their flat-screens and cell phones depended on it. Things are only going to get worse. Get ready for an all-out war on school choice .. and that includes the home schooling option. The era of the teacher's unions is upon us.

And thanks Voters. This is an election that has been driven by wealth envy and celebrity worship. I really don't see any of this changing anytime soon ... so, whatchagonnado?

i know way more than 7 americans, i do not know a single person who has lost there home. so i have trouble getting my mind around 1 in 7 has lost there home. i have a mortgage that has a high interest rate due to poor financial decisions when i was younger. in my family i provide 100% income. my wife and i have two children. we are not in financial trouble and are by no means wealthy. i would say we are not even middle class based on income. i am living here and the reality i see just dont mesh with that the doomsdayers are saying. if 1 in 7 already lost there home that is 14% of american homes lost. im sure i would know at least one of the people it happened too. your other figure about 1 foreclosure in 1,117 households sounds more accurate that is well less than one percent.

Yeah, i'll stop. I've made my point, now it's time to move on.

But pretty memorable day nonetheless, in only a few hours will we know who will lead the USA, can't wait.

housil and bishopmarine - I'm having a hard time finding an exact listing of current foreclosure rates but I did run across this slideshow on cnbc.com:

http://www.cnbc.com/id/24599492

This shows the top 10 states with foreclosure rates as of April 2008. I won't recount all the figures, but here are the #1 and #10 states:

#1 - Nevada - 1 in 147 households have received a foreclosure notice.
#10 - Massachusetts - 1 in 539 households have received a foreclosure notice.

The other 8 states seemed to vary evenly betwene 147 and 529. So let's call it a 0.003% foreclosure rate as of April, 2008.

Because of these types of bogus loans which created this subprime mortgage debacle many people were at risk of losing their homes. Because it was caused by crooked business men who have been questioned by the House (there may still yet be severe penalties for them) all is not lost. I've been privy to hear that alot of the rescue efforts is coming from the Church. That means there helping to pay for it to keep people in their homes. Evil will not prevail.

@bishopmarine

I got that 1/7 from Cape Coral Fl as we were interested in a house up there. Bargains when the Dollar was only €0.65 and all the bank distrains 8) We had TV "shows" over here about buying houses in Florida.

Due to RealtyTrac-Chef James Saccacio:

A current number of 243.000 households are in foreclosure, every 519.

4.06 mio houses are for sale by the bank in USA, 40.000 more than a month before.
In December the numbers will increase up to 60.000 per month(!)

That´s are over 4 mio + X current American familiy tragedies to me! If you know them or not.

But I agree with you, we also have two incomes, a 2.100 square feet 3 years old stone house, 4 cars (a brand new BMW X3), 30 - 35 days of fully paid vacation a year, health insurance that pays everything, unemployed insurance, accident insurance, pension insurance, nursing care insurance for everybody working (paying) and his familiy (for free)!!!

Image

Doctors making home calls, a life flight helicopter every 50km. If you go to job-school and learn a profession, you get paid for 3 years and don´t have to pay! University is for free until you are finish and have a Doctors degree!

You see, I´m just "concerned" about that very nice country with it´s very nice people from over here if you got the "wrong" President. It can get worse...

this is quite an interesting election for me. this is the first time in my life i have been able to see some input on our election from members of other countries. even when i disagree with some posts, i cant say i totally disagree. some i have to say that sounds bad but part of it hits home. i look forward to going home and seeing how it all unfolds. kman i think i will get a twelve pack of original coors it is after all called the banquet beer. i know eu members that coors is not real beer. but my taste buds have become partial to it. :P
