Thanks for link to article rekrutacja! Looks very similar to some of the places here in America, and I'll say this; with my claustrophobia, I'd be having a hard time in those bunkers and tunnels, but if I had no choice I'd make the best of it.

I have absolutely no problem getting into tight spaces, but my acrophobia is a serious problem in the mountains :-)
Poland is a great place for such places. We have a lot of bunkers build by Tzars before 1918 and by Hitler during WW2. There is a serious tourism for places such as Wolfsschanze, Mamerki (which is in part a nature reserve now, due to unique bat population), Międzyrzecz Fortified Region. Really interesting staff:

Rekrutacja, I think the old, pre-WW2 fortifications of "Romanian Bridgehead" are now in Ukraine, isn't? I'd like to make a trip there. :D

Hi,

Yeap, I intend to make a trip next summer there. Is a very scenic region, shared by Romania and Ukraine, called Maramures. There are much to discover in that area, starting with wooden churches, some traditions, very good peasant food...

Cool pics, guys! Actually alot of the stuff here in America was built for AT&T and Western Union, and they have some pretty cool bunker sites, many of which are still in operation. As I'm getting old and forgetful, I will repost this link in case I forgot to earlier, which has photos of these places, actually I'm sure every country has hardened communications systems for gov't and military functions, but AT&T really had a big system in place during the cold war. Here is the link; http://coldwar-c4i.net enjoy! :D

I just watched the horror movie "Outpost" a couple nights ago.....talk about a claustrophobia-inducing bunker! Not to mention the rather nasty stuff the Nazi's were doing in the movie, which may or may not be within the realm of current technology of countries.

I live in the centre of Vilnius who is now a modern city demolishing it's soviet heritage yet You can still find so many places that echoes to those dark times: vaults, radio and missile bases, war factories (so called "P.O. boxes". These factories stood in the middle of the city, but had no names, only PO boxes on it. Workers had to lie that they make toys or other stuff). And outside the city there are more interesting places: bunkers, airfields, rocket bases. I highly recommend to visit this museum:
