the reason universal health care would be a disaster is because it is just too big. our leaders can't even fix social security. it would be the second largest program in our budget other than defense. i work full time, i have pretty good insurance. everyone has access to healthcare may not be the best in the world. if you dont work due to sorriness then sorry no healthcare. what we need is some major healthcare reform. lets fix the system but socialized medicine is not a good idea. just check out the other countries that have tried it.

I live in canada and I aside from the fact that yes many reforms are needed I don't see anything wrong with the idea of socialized medicine. And its too easy to just say "oh that guy isn't working, he must be just some lazy undeserving slob". I'd rather have universal healthcare than be told that just because I don't have the money then I'm going to be left to suffer and possibly die. Since I'm a Canadian I don't know if some of the hardliners on this forum are simply going to blatantly flame me but too bad. The US healthcare system is a complete joke and a disgrace. Universal healthcare is far from perfect but its the right step to be taking.

Is this why US hospitals near the border are full of canadians ?
I think a lot of your folks would disagree with you.....
I understand that it's illegal for a canadian to go to a private doctor, this puts your country in exclusive company with two other fine socialized countrys... North Korea and Cuba.....
My local hospital has a lot of tourists coming in, for routine procedures, that they cannot get back home. brits, canadians, and mexicans.
all socialized medicine countrys.
If our system is so bad, stay home
I'm tired of paying for you

i dont see how the u.s healthcare system is a joke. i work i pay for insurance and if needed i go to the doctor and dont have to pay 100% of the doctor bill. the problem with universal health care is that people will go to the doctor if they sneeze. or if they have a cold. the emergency room is for emergencies ie broken bones and such. not a bad cold. we have a problem with abuse of prescription medication and if everyone can go to the doctor anytime they want it will just get worse. also doctors will be paid based on a scale for procedures, not based on the quality of service they give. no one in the usa is turned away from healthcare even if they cant pay. that is part of the problem. the people that do pay for healthcare have to eat those costs. we need healthcare but not free healthcare for everyone. it is only free if you dont work. then it is only free for you not the millions of americans that have to pick up the tab. i am pretty confident that we will not be headed toward socialism in the near future at least not the next four years.

Oh well, it's all over now. I mean with McCains' pick for the VP. "O" was just cancelled. He's going to be so embarrased by his loss, he'll just have to crawl back to the slums of Chicago, and hope he does'nt get caught, like Rep. Rostonkowski. Write this down. DangerousDave said, McCain wins 54% to Obama 46%.

In the Netherlands everybody from the age of 18 is obligated to have a health insurance. A 'salary dependent' part is paid by the employer or is deducted from the social security check. The other part has to be paid by the person himself. I pay about 140 euro every month (not included the employers part). Fot this I get an 80-100% coverage of all my costs. The first 150 euro a year I have to pay myself.
What we have is a rather social system, which cost a lot of money. I do think we have an obligation to the 'socially weaker' people who can not act or think for themselves in a good manner. However I find it more and more difficult to pay for those @ssholes who chronically drink too much alcohol, shoot drugs or otherwise put up their middel finger to society.
The healthcare in the US is maybe so expensive because medical personel and organisation have to be insured at extreme high levels because of liaibilty issues. We don't really know the system of suing. Sometimes I read articles about the US practise of suing people and I think it is completely ruining your system.
If you like war, than vote for McCain! He and his party offer you an everlasting war on terrorism, Iran, Russia and so on.
Or if you like being fooled by the promises of hope and changes than vote for Obama.
I am not an American, but if I were I would vote for Ron Paul. I like his straight forward ideas and he is against war.
Oh, and if McCain wins, don't be suprised to see more 9/11's coming your way. If you want war, you'll get it. This is absolutely not the way I would like to see it, but be sure masses of (would-be) terrorist and radical moslims, Russians, you name it, think this way.

in the event of another attack on a scale comparable to 9/11. i feel sorry for the civilians in the country the attacker's came from. wait a minute no i dont feel sorry for them. also an attack once every 8 years does not really constitute war. no one really wants to piss us off too much. with a president like mccain i think we will be more secure. the threat of blowing the shit out of a country is real. another massive attack on U.S by radical muslims will ultimately result in their own death blow.

If you start a war, be sure to win it. If you can't win it, don't start it.
After 5 years the mightiest country in the world (USA) still hasn't won the war in one of the poorest countries in the world (Iraq). We have seen this before in Vietnam, Afghanistan (the Russians) and Ethiopia.
Nobody is going to win a war against hundreds of millions adversaries. First you have to define what you mean by the word 'winnig'. If that means killing millions of people including your own citizens and contaminating the world with nucleair waste, then you lose no matter what.
We have to find a different way to settle our problems with other countries. I don't think that electing warmongers is the way out of this impasse. Maybe I am wrong.

If the US continues to fight fire with fire (which is what McCain will inevitably and obviously do) only more will burn. Or the US government can chose to become the bigger man and not resort to military intervention every single time some brainwashed terrorist fuck decides to blow himself up. Sometimes being the bigger man isn't overrated. This isn't to say that those terrorist fuck remnants don't deserve to get the shit tortured out of them but aggression vs aggression will only give them more reasons to be the retards that they are. If there are no US troops to kill on their home turf then what else can they do?
