Hey guys
I acquired a aluminium mess kit dated 1917 and the fork and spoon dated 1918. Canteen and cup are 1918. They are in good, usable condition with just a few spots of rust here and there. How do i clean these spots of aluminium rust ?
The canteen i purchased in unused and mint condition, I drink from it safely. The Cup needs some cleaning.
I know it may seem occult to some to use 100 year old gear, but I find it refreshing and historically important.
Thanks for any advise, I am sure some Ration enthusiasts are educated in this subject.

Re: WW1 Mess Kit advise
I've used a vinegar solution (50/50 white distilled vinegar and water) to remove oxidization from aluminum mess gear with good results. It's my understanding that you want to avoid alkaline solutions with aluminum. The mess kit may need to soak in the vinegar solution for 10-12 hours (more depending on level of oxidation).
Hope this helps!
