What is the story of your members name?

Now this is a pretty cool thread. Very interesting names and backgrounds on the names. So, here goes mine.

For years we have had Dachshunds. At one time we had four. Our eldest was Frauline, a short haired red. Her litter mate was the sire to our second one, a long haired red named Helga. Both were/are miniatures. The third was the little crown prince, a long haired mini-miniature named Kramer (I believe that is German for Shopkeeper). But he has always had the crazy hair like Cosmo Cramer on Sienfeld. The fourth was our only rescue dog. He was a Black and Tan miniature short hair we named Gunter. (Yall are starting to see a theme with the naming of the German breed, yes?)

Anyway, in 2011, we decided to move to the mountains and open a gun range specializing in extremely difficult courses for law enforcement and military reserve units. As well as for firearm manufacturers. We wanted to name it after Gunter and we're going to name the range Gunny's Gun Range. However, in the next town over was an indoor range at a gun shop called Gunny's Gun Store and owned by a former Gunny Sergeant in the Corps. So we decided on Black Dog Gun Range. We also opened Black Dog Survival School. The range was only open to the public for special events like Machine Gun Shoots or things like that.

Well, the gun range flopped! Remember in 2011 and 2012 LE departments suffered major budget cuts. We lost roughly $140,000 on the range in 2012. But the survival school kept us afloat by making a profit. So in September 2012, we closed the range but kept the school open and now run training classes in 22 states throughout the year. I am very well known in the Preparedness community among both Government Agencies and Civilian Preppers. I was about to teach a class in 2013 at an expo and when they announced my name for the class they called me Black Dog Bob. Since then, it has just stuck. And hey, I kinda dig it. So I kept it.

Yes. It´s an old word ("Kramer" or "Krämer") for the owner of a general store and their stores are (were) called "Kra(ä)merladen" "Kramer store"

My moniker isn't anything earth shattering. When I was in the army at Bragg it was the thing to call everyone "Dog or Dawg". Artillery guy's were Gun Dogs.

About 10 years ago maybe a bit longer, I had some old army buddies come into town in DC, with them and my current crop of friends the stories flew and beers were drained. My friend John kept calling me Gundog. Quite a memorable night. Next thing I know at work guys and gals are calling me gundog too and the nickname stuck. I ended up making it my Gmail account name so people would know it was me and not spam for passing around funny pics, jokes and the like.

Now the other half has nicknames too but they are kind of rude and can't be repeated here LOL!

I won't get into it too deep, but back in the late 90s I started a faux-cult called The Society of the Yak. We had some holy books, a few hundred members, and other than a secret handshake or two and a whole ton of joke rules that contradicted each other we didn't really have much going on. I was the Ruleryak - and I've never once had a problem registering the name with various services/forums so I've kept it for about 20 years now.

I saw some quick clot gauze do its thing overseas quite well. Make sure to have some handy in the truck in a go bag now. so i picked the name that wasn't straight plagiarizing, even though now I mostly get kiwwie and K when people reference it.
