Post by Name_not_found » Sun Jun 26, 2016 10:41 am

Just picked up a spoon and fork form 1917 and 1918 (WWI) Pretty good shape too.

Does anyone know the proper knife to go with this set? I assume a fat handle

Anyone else have some neat old utensils please feel free to share

I'm looking forward to the pics. While I can't answer the question (though it looks like BlackDogBob has the answer anyway), I'm curious because I have a mess kit fork that doesn't have a date on it, and I'm not really sure when it's from. I've always figured it was WWII vintage, but actually have no idea. It has a nice big US stamped on it, but no date unfortunately.

Makes me wish I had hung onto more of these WW2 mess kits & utensil sets I had gotten from a warehouse of mil-surp I'd bought out back in 2014!

But I DO have this nice Pewter inlay fork & knife from The American Civil War - and it's kinda fun poking some hardtack in a metal cup of hot water with that little pitch-fork! ;)

I bought a canteen as a birthday present for my late grandpa a while back. The canteen was dated 1918. The cover and cup were 1942 and 1944.

I got you covered on the knife brother. I have a bunch of packages I need to get shipped out. Have a package to send your way. Will send you the one I picked up the other day and get another one next week when I go back to that store. He had several. Do you need the mess kit as well?
