Absolutely! (except gel i hate it, it gets all over the place for me)

Perhaps i came off has a FRH fiend, but i do use other fuels gladly.

I have a very nice camping stove housil helped me find, its alcohol fueled with a large tank for fuel

What type of alcohol do you use denaturalized or 90%? I use the 90% alcohol one on my trangia. I once tried Everclear ans Bacardi 151 and both times it worked....

If it´s just a quick lunch/dinner, I would prefer the FRH also.
If it´s a whole break, I´d like to heat some water in a canteen with an ESBIT stove so I can have a warm drink with it.
If I´m with my car, I like to use my fuel stove most. The ESBIT cooker leaves a nasty, black residue back.

Same here. For a break, I'll make a little wood fire, keeping a small Esbit stove with a six-pack of fuel tabs as reserve.

Denatured is the cheapest around here for the energy:
Its "pure" ethanol (about 95% there is no 100% unless your in a laboratory look up azeotrope if your interested why)

In other words same as everclear but with no consumption tax because they add poison so you cant drink it. So i guess a little less than 95% pure in reality

Gallon jug from lowes was about $8 or $12 if i remember right

I also like the yellow bottles of Heet (yellow is almost pure methanol, dont use the other one), they can be a better price during the summer than denatured

I think you will be good to around 70% if iso or eth or methanol, but you will loose heat to the water in the fuel

I have seen that Heet here too. But I simply get bottles of 90% alcohol that work both for the cookers and for disinfecting any cut or bruise.

I could get my (1965) Enders Bundeswehr (fuel) cooker working. I like to use it on mechanized hikes. It takes only 1 min to boil 1 liter of water.

A friend of mine has a stove identical to the one housil is showing and he says it works great. I guess what it comes down to is your situation: how fast do you need to heat something vs. how much weight do you want to carry. In many situations it probably won't make the difference between life and death to wait a few minutes for water to boil or to heat an MRE entree depending on your means of heating. I guess every system has it's advantages and dis-advantages. For me, I'd be concerned in a real "bug-out" situation with making sure the weight I carried was used as economically as possible (i.e. how much food could I carry for the same weight as a coleman stove or any other fuel-based system that did not use just fuel tablets). But not everyone is going to be prepping for a disaster----most folks who just love to hike and camp are gonna use what they know will work for them.

Back in the early 1970s when I was first getting involved with the backpacking, my friend Philip had one that was a very similar.
I am thinking it was an Optimus 8R.
Does anybody know how the old Optimus compares with this Enders Bundeswehr that Housil is showing?
At that point in time, I was using a traditional old brass Svea. I seem to remember that Philip had shorter boil times than I did.

[I would love to know whatever happened to those two old Sveas that I had... I can't find them anywhere, but I don't remember giving them away to anybody]
