Battle of the Bulge Trip

Will you give us some more details on the Trail or hike? How many miles a day did you cover, is there resupply/food/water along the way. Can anyone do it?

The trail itself isn´t that far, from the village of Vossenack where the trail started to Schmidt, it´s only 9km (5.6 miles) but the difficulty is it´s very steep. You start at an elevation of 408 meters and the gorge (after 2km) is down at 260 meters
So it´s *very* steep.

I had MREs and water with me and we did that trail (and all the way back) within a day.

By the way, have you lost a little weight?

Spent a few years in 2ID stateside. I am not familiar with that monument though, maybe one day I will get to check it out in person!

Sorry to hijack this great post. A friend of mine just sold and gave away everything he had and moved to Mermaid Beach on the Gold Coast. If I ever get the chance to go visit him I may hit you up for one of your grand Darwin to Ulura tours.

I sent a link of your Battle of the Bulge post to my friends who aren't on this site. I though they would really enjoy the pictures, video links and your maps. My friends are the type who would want to make the trip to Belgium to see this.

Awesome pics housil! The terrain reminds me alot of an area near me called "The Notch" in Hadley Massachusetts, where a cold war bunker inside of Bear Mountain is surrounded by steep ravines and beautiful wooded trails that were once access roads to the bunker and to the communications array on the summit of the mountain. After the place was shut down, the state parks people made walking trails and a wildlife sanctuary at the site. I will try to find some pics and links to the place. BTW housil, on the subject of weight I have found that raw, un-filtered apple cider vinegar has helped me with my struggle----I take a tablespoon of it in an 8oz. glass of water with every meal. If the info I read is accurate the stuff causes certain fats that are eaten to be rendered un-digestible and they are eliminated from the body along with other waste. Only problem is, the stuff can be expensive.
