Utility Knife unknown blade use.

Post by RLT » Tue Nov 20, 2012 7:52 pm

Recently acquired, it's made by SMF in Solingen Germany and has all the hallmarks of a fine Swiss army style knife, however the outer case is stainless and nicely finished. The remaining blades don't really provide me a clue (large blade, can opener, corkscrew, awl, screwdriver/bottle opener and smaller blade.

The tool sticking out 90d (with a detent) and opens fully is cylindrical, smooth, somewhat round on the tip, and has a thin slit about an inch long where the paper is placed. A thin gauge mono filament line just barely fits in there.

The big question is what is the blade sticking out for?

I'm trying to find an answer for an online friend. It's round with a slightly rounded tip. there is a slot about one inch deep that goes all the way through.

Some of the guys on the board it was posted on thought it might be to open the old style cans that used a key.

I thought I would post it on here where there is more worldwide participation to see if anyone here recognized it.

Corned beef I like. Sardines are out of the question after getting snowed in for three weeks at a friends hunting cabin that was "stocked with enough food for a year".

It was too if you could live on sardines in mustard and ships crackers. That was thirty years ago and I still shudder when I pass them in a store.

well for a 2" barrel it could be long enough but that's not even sure...
The sardines/corned beefs seems to be a more obvious option (IMHO)
