Hurrican Sandy

Post by jfko6 » Fri Nov 02, 2012 10:30 pm

Friends, been out of the loop for awhile but have a report to share on Hurrican Sandy. I have done so in the past on other disasters.

Sandy spun closer to New York City last weekend with the major effects culminating Sunday night. Many of you are avid survivalists and like to stock up on supplies including the beloved MRE's.
It may not be obvious what happened without seeing the devastation first hand. Your imagination would only slightly leen toward some damage. However, we lost lives in Rockaway Queens, NY. Our boardwalk was completely destroyed (in some parts) and sections are still sitting on my building property. I'll try and get some photos up. Other parts of the boardwalk was swept inland. Cars caught in the rising tide were bundled together, carried and deposited by Sandy in some cases 5 city blocks. Fires were a big problem. Over a 100 homes were raised by the fire in Breezy Point and the foundation of this landlocked community was shifted. No electricity. Looting WAS rampant. Cops were shot at. Murders were committed for food.

People hungry for food would look for it but could not get it. The Red Cross was no where to be seen -- the were late in responding, their response apparently elswhere or, some other function performed. But they were not seen in the Rockaways. Tha National Guard flew missions over and a report I got from the Civil Air Patrol was nothing left in Breezy, or, that's how it looked. FEMA was late, power was completely out; Radio Shack looted; no services of any kind. No electricity as of today.

JFK and his family is ok and relocated, safely. I got MRE's from the National Guard.

As always, the lesson: it's still better to have your own supplies on hand. Long wait times for food and water complicated by colder weather made it more difficult. Teamwork and checking your neighbors is very important.
