I did microbiology as education, but feel free to ignore me.
Again, I did not do it to start an argue, and I regret it that you take it like that.

The information on wikipedia on this is correct, but I know it's doubtfull because everyone can change it.
A single legionella contamination killed 30 out of 427 infected people here about 10 years ago, and that is the reason I wouldn't take any risk with storing tapwater.
http://ukpmc.ac.uk/classic/articlerende ... tid=246465

I tried to explain it several times, but you only think I'm obsessed.. so be it, I don't really care.
The beer is a simple thing, that I always have in the fridge, and no, i'm not an alcoholic, but I, just like our German neighbours, just like a cold beer on a hot summer day.

Storing fresh tap water instead of bottled water is like storing fresh vegetables instead of MREs for emergency situations..
"It's still consumable when cooked"..

Again, I did not want to start an argue / offend your way of preperation off any kind.
I just gave some advice, but you only take it as an offence.
To bad we couldn't discuss this as adults, so this is my last reply aswell.
Sure, someone may one day kill me with my own gun.
But they'll have to beat me to death with it because it's empty.

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.

Yes, because your response was "offensive."

I'm not just seeing it that way.

Your response was pompous
and so I am calling you out
to Change your tune and tone.

If you expect to have a decent
conversation with some one don't come out and
say that "you" said it. That's petty.

So you can take my advise or
leave it as well.

I'm calling this as necessary
and hope you learn from it.

That last I took microbiology is
now also way irrelevant.

Even microbiologist's don't use
Wikipedia as source material.

Did not want to respond either but
maybe this will be helpful to you.

And with that will surely be my last.

You are the type that has a need
to respond.

Go ahead. I may read it. I may not.

Well, you replied so I might aswell.

Maybe my lack of knowledge of the english language might of caused the problem, but I never ment to be offensive.
I do not take wikipedia as a source, only as an example for you that's easy to read.
I also have a lot of info on the Westfriese Flora beurs (the Legionella disaster) but it's all in Dutch. If you would like the sources, I'd be very happy to send them to you. And I do not claim that I am a microbiologist, I only did the education for about 1½ years, but dropped out due to a lack of interest (I'm more interested in chemistry.)

So I'm sorry if I've offended you in any way, that wasn't my intention at all.
I only hope that you can take my advice seriously, spending 2 or 3 dollars for bottled water really isn't that much of a thing for drinking water.. Everything works fine untill it doesn't.
Sure, someone may one day kill me with my own gun.
But they'll have to beat me to death with it because it's empty.

Thanks. I don't mean to be offensive but I'm not really interested in your sources.

Maybe I don't understand the Dutch, either.

So lets leave it at that.

But that beer comment leaves a lot to be desired in any language.

Water can be used in long term storage as long as you take the necesary pecautions like using bleach or iodine and is kept in plastic containers away from the sunlight, preferably in dark cool places...
When Hurricane Georges hit the Caribbean back in 98' ,I lived in PR with my parents and we lived without running water for almost 8 months. We had our supply of water from our storage in large opaque 55,20 or 15 gal. drums. The water system was in and out and the quality was bad. We even had our back up system designed to gather the rain from the hurricane. All of this treated with chlorine bleach in each drum and the rain catch or cistern.... Also we had plenty of bottled water. :D
We have a saying back home..." if the Spaniards did it and made it using cisterns made of bricks ,mortar and stones that they still are in use today....why can we do it?.....

Water bottles are ok but if you have the know how ,you can save a lot of $$$ by doing it yourself.!!!
Both points are valid and the main idea is...KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!
Do what you got to do to help yourself and your family in the times of need....ADAPT AND OVERCOME!

" Give a fish to somenone and he will have food for a day....teach him how to fish and he will have food for a life time..."
Peace!

Yes, Cracker had some good points to make and Bypah
had a great story and showed from experience that
there are tools that can be used in a survival situation with out
complete reliance on bottled water.

Bottled water has to be developed, manufactured
and it has it's limits. Having extra bottled
water on hand -- I'm all for that.

I apologize to Cracker if I sounded harsh.

We should all be respectful of each others
viewpoints. We do after all provide
a good and free service to the community
at large.
