GM Sells Hummer to China
Re: GM Sells Hummer to China
Olli,I don't think that will happen. Trust me.
GM sold the civilian Hummer divison to the chinese for $150 million.
They already have a replacement for the military Hummers or have another company producing them.
They don't give anything away just for the sake of some big bucks....
At this moment the US military is replacing the hummers with MRAP vehicles such as the Cougar H and the International Maxx Pro. The first one doing so are the Marines.
If the Chinese wants the hummer..let them have it....lol

AM General is the parent company that manufactures the military Hummer. Only the division that makes the civilian Hummer was sold to GM. That is the division that was sold to Chinese.

Bypah, These MRAP's remind me of the old SADF Buffel's. At least they seem to take some design cues from them.Bypah wrote:Olli,I don't think that will happen. Trust me.GM sold the civilian Hummer divison to the chinese for $150 million.

Re: GM Sells Hummer to China
All those things have the future (The Dingo, Bushmaster, Cougar, etc)
Better IED protection etc.. but they are really a pain in the ass to drive into urban area's (to large) and they even stumbled across bridges they did not dare to cross because of their weight..
Lighter vehicles will forever live on, simply because they are inexpendible.. some situations demand the helicopter, amfibious or cargoplane transport of vehicles..
The huge advantage is those things have mega amounts of armor and IED protection. They tend to survive RPG attacks (atleast the German Dingo and the Dutch (australian made though) Bushmasters..and simply "suck up" a IED blast.
The vehicles get FUBAR, but save the crew.. disadvantages are that those vehicles are to large and heavy, as mentioned earlier.. and they have a lack of firepower (only one MG, remote controlled at the european ones, crew can't use their own weapons).
And no, I don't say that a auto 40mm or a .50cal lacks punch.. but if the crew can supply additional firepower with their rifles, MG and SAW.. it could make a big difference in some situations where you need it..
+ they use huge amounts of fuel.. but that's nothing new to the US Dept. of Defense.
they seem to ban every military vehicle that doesn't consume at least a gallon per mile..

Sure, someone may one day kill me with my own gun.
But they'll have to beat me to death with it because it's empty.
A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kick boxing.
