The problem with 7.62x54R is truly the corrosive ammo. Try to find new Czech Sellier&Bellot non-corrosive ammo or "gold-plated" (extremely expensive) Finnish Lapua in 7.62x53R (is the same ammo, really).

Never.. ever.. !! use ammonia on your rifle :shock:

Use rifle cleaning agents, or simply oil..
Ammonia is to agressive for the metal, you have numerous cheap cleaner that are much better..
Surplus weapon cleaning oil is good for corrosive cleaning aswell.. the only problem with that is that it doesn't remove copper/lead..

But I guess you can't really screw up much for $89, but really, it's a no go.. :wink:
If you want to really clean your rifle properly, get BoreTech Elimator.. (removes copper, lead, powder remains + burned stuff) and isn't thát expensive.. (pricy, but not über expensive)

And AK70, don't you guys have Prvi Partizan? It's the not cheap, not expemsive ammo from serbia.. .308 costs €410 per 1000.. Surplus costs €259 per 1000, and lapua €650 per 1000.. but they sell 7.62x54R aswell..

The "soviets" had a lot of corrosive ammo.. but it doesn't matter, as long as you clean your rifle properly..
But soviet surplus isn't for expensive weapons anyways.. you don't shoot inaccurate ammunition in a expensive rifle..

Btw here some Dutch prices / per 1000:

.223REM = Wolf €195, Prvi €260, American Eagle €260, S&B €320 (62Gr FMJ)
.308WIN = Surplus €250/€259, Prvi €410, S&B €480, Lapua €650, Norinco copperplated steel cases €275 (146 to 150gr FMJ)
Sure, someone may one day kill me with my own gun.
But they'll have to beat me to death with it because it's empty.

Yeap, we have. But I preffer the S-B brand, 'cause is much consistent, much reliable and much precise. The quality/price factor is higher than other brands.

S&B does only slightly better then Prvi (.308) and costs quite a bit more (about 5-9 cents more per round)
I shoot 7.62x51 bundeswehr surplus myself (MEN).. 146grain FMJ (tombak coated steeljacket)

They are cheap.. they go "boom" .. and the bullet hits the target.. and I even manage to hit something..
(The rifle and ammo is always better in my case) .. so it doesn't matter that much to me :mrgreen:

I still have a good supply of 70's M-60 ammo, that I de-link.
Very good stuff, I shoot it in my M1A and my Sako Forester!
Good cases for reloading too... Once the primer crimp is removed.

The MEN stuff is berdan primed.. but even when it would be boxer.. it wouldn't be reloadable..

:mrgreen: the XR41 (G3 clone) isn't very gentil with the brass..

Brass mouth is "ticked" (from hitting the wall.. because the rifle throws them 10meters normally)
The side is ticked (=completely mutelated..).. and the extractor messes up the rim..
And they are all black when they come out.. like they've bin in the ground for 25 years.. :mrgreen:

Anyone wants some .308 brass? :mrgreen:
