National Guard Show

Post by george94 » Fri Feb 13, 2009 8:58 pm

I'm watching some Nat. Guard show on demand and a ration thing popped in. They said there eating MRE's but the showing them TOTM's and the Army Capt. said there is about 2500 to 3000 cal in each totm? My understanding is MRE's have around 1200 cal and totm's have less that an MRE. Did they switch this or is the capt. miss informed?

George,
Sounds like the Cpt. is misinformed. TOTM's have less food in them and hence less calories. A regular MRE's has more in the bag than a TOTM.
TOTM's were designed to take the place of a MRE in a garrison training environment where a mess facility can't/or is not available. They give them to the soldiers for say a afternoon lunch or late meal. I've had them before, not the greatest in meals and definitely skipping on the variety of entree's.

George,

Still if you can't find the original MRE's, TOTM's are the next best thing. They have all original MRE parts to them like you would find in the military ones. These are nothing like the Menu "C"'s.

Came across this prize thing they do. Go to there website (1800goguard.com) and go to Hoahh. They do these questions that are so easy and you can get like free music downloads and nat. guard merchandise. I would rather them give a SAPI plate though for 10000 hoahhs  I got 7000points but I want different prizes. BTW 100 post :D

That stuff about the 2500-3000 calories gets confused all the time. That's really close to the amount of calories they recommend a soldier eat for a whole day. MREs are supposed to contain an average of 1,250 calories each.

Yah, i think TOTM's only have about 900 cals...Still way too much for sit-on-their-arse types

I saw another show a while back while they were in Alaska doing cold weather ops. They talked about what I thought were MCW's until they pulled out a brown bag MRE and said it had 3000 cal in each.
