Contractor(s) for military M16 and M4 rifles.
Hey guys, I was having some trouble finding out who supplies the US military with their M16/M4 rifles. Hopefully one of you can help me out? Thanks!
I'm not trying to be a smartass here, but you're really better off spending just a few seconds with Google and your question should be easy to answer.
We've already had one guy from the Army join in here and get snippy with us for talking about what certain badges on Army uniforms mean. I think he'd throw a fit if he saw us discussing military rifle contractors. :-)

I can say that there isn't a real single contractor, a lot of them are in on the biz. I know Olympic Arms has provided barrels in the past, and Colt used to be the standard, but I don't really know what current issue is. K is right though, google should be the easy answer. I gotta plug Oly cause I love em. My AR is sweet and I've never had a problem FWIW.. next to cheapest Oly they sell.

The Rifles
FYI
The Army has taken heat the last couple of years over the poor performing M4 rifle currently being used in IRAQ. The patent will expire sometime next year which will allow competing manufactures to evaluate the specs. and design newer carbines. A bid will go out for a new carbine. The M4 has proven to be unreliable in tests.
Manufactured by Colt firearms you can see my M16 Colt in the photo. That's one logo that for some reason always stood out.

And yes I know those guys in the Army who have a penchant for the know- it-all do nothing mentality. Screw them.
If we weren't so worried about political correctness which is nothing more than an illogical set of phony standards, our country wouldn't be in such uncertain fiscal financial shape.

MasterofPuppets,
Hey, not that I'm giving away any secrets here but here's a bit of info I found out about 6-7 years ago. I was doing a weekend drill at my National Guard unit when one weekend I noticed that my M16A2 had a different stamp on the lower receiver. It was FN/FAL not Colt! I also checked around to some newer M-16A4's and found out they too had FN/FAL on the lower portions, I was curious if Colt lost a contract and FN/FAL picked up the swing and supplied M-16's? Be interesting?

OK, JFK06, we all know that Truman was too much of a pussywhip, to let MacArthur go in there and blow out those Commie Bastards. Lovely MILES harness you have there. Did you get hit? I'll never forget the time, I swiped a MILES control gun at NTC, took it to the company chow truck, ate, got about 200 feet away, heading back to my 113, and wiped out most of third platoon and hq platoon.
