Stef wrote:Hi,
Interesting! I though "Mexico" was from the Nahuatl word “Mexica” and originally pronounced like "Meshica/Meshicatl"(plur./sing.). The old Spanish was strongly influenced by the Gallician (Gallego?)which uses of the sound “X”a lot, wrong?
You're right .It comes from the nahuatl language "meshica". But when the spaniards came in like in many other cases they wrote the approximation of what they heard. Also you are correct the gallician influenced the castillian (Castellano) from Spain. The "X" had the sound of the "jota/j" during the medieval times and eventually evolved in the same letter due to arabic influences....

I wouldn't be proud if the country I live in would ignore important human rights. And the obligation to contact the country (i.e. ambassy) where the perpetrator is citizen of, is an important right. It is important to very one!
Suppose an American would receive the death penalty in Iran for fumbling around with somebody else his wife. (Some hundred million arabs think this is a capital crime!)
Would we then also support the death penalty and would we find it okay if the Iranians hadn't contact the US?
The purpose of Human Rights is that they are for every person, with no regard to the (criminal) act he/she committed.

yep or imagine this American citizen would have be condemned to death in France for having poured some ketchup on his "pavé de saumon à l'estragon avec sa fondue de poireau" (some dozen million French think this is a capital crime!)...
All the sexual things are OK here and there is no more penalty ...although almost everybody want it back after every case of kid rapist.

I wrote a long reply to this, but it got a bit out of hand, so I'll stick to just this.
If you murder in cold blood you have taken away someone's human rights, so as far as I'm concerned you also just forfeited your own.
Death penalty, life in prison, whatever, that's up to the country/state and the people that live in it, but your "human rights" should be just as gone as the person you killed.

hi Stef & aquarius....
If that was the case the US simply invades Iran and France to get those citizens out....
Like always there is a double standard for everything....
BUT....that guy forfeited his own "human rights " by doing what he did to those 2 innocent girls!!!!

I think there is a huge difference for fumbling with ones wife and raping and killing innocent children. If an american went to another country ILLEGALLY and did the same thing I would volunteer to do the injections. As for his consulate rights thats just a bunch of BS. What could they have done to help him go back in time and unrape and unmurder those girls. I'm glad the bastard is dead. I also look forward to the honduras ILLEGAL immigrant that is scheduled to be put to death next. Guess what no one is even putting up a fuss for him. I praise Texas for not giving in to world outrage of protecting our own country.

Just wondering... would there be needles enough to kill all the US troops in Iraq?
I am not against the death penalty for some punck who murderer two young girls, no matter if he was a legal or illegal.
The US was once the most important promotor of human rights, especially of human rights outside the US. I think it just would be nice if the US was still a fighter for human rights. But since 9/11 and worse of all since Bush c.s., things are getting worse.

This post was about someone who came to the United States commited a crime and was punished for it. Are we supposed to apologize for enforcing our own laws? Iraq is a whole other subject. That I don't really have time to get into right now.
