What is the worlds best Extreme cold weather clothing system

Post by Mkim340518 » Thu Apr 24, 2008 11:29 am

Hey, guys I know that there are plenty of people here that can help me out. I just want to buy a good set of Gore-tex pants and jacket but, I'm not sure of which countries Cold Weather System is the best. I know that the U.S. has the new Gen III ECWCS system which consists of 7 different layers but, that stuff is stupid expensive. I was also thinking about our Gen II system which you can get for way cheaper but, is it also that much of a inferior product compared to the Gen III?

Then I ran into the Swiss, German, and Dutch Gore-tex systems and so, now I'm really unsure of what I want.....

I need something light and packable, that is absolutely waterproof, breathable, GORE-TEX, and worth the money....PLEASE I NEED YOUR HELP!!!!!!!!!

Thank you again

Mike Kim

As we don´t have real winter in Germany, we don´t have "Extreme cold..."

The Bundeswehr (German Army) is using its regular clothing and wear them in layers as follows to increase isolation:

Winter under wear:

Very popular for skiing
I also use it in the sleeping bag

Next layer is regular BDU

Now use the liner (Unterziehjacke Kälteschutz)

Next layer depends if it is dry/cold:

Use parker:

or wet/cold:

take (Goretex) rain suit

This will work in German "winter" (nothing you scandinavian, canadian etc. folks will call a winter!! :D )

There are some more nice clothings like liner pants:

My favorit:
Pullover :

with undershirt:

The German rain jacket has just two ordenary pockets - nothing else!

Anybody still reading untill here?! Let´s continue... :D

If it doesn´t need to be a genuine Bundeswehr one, better buy a rain jacket from another manufacturer like:
MILTEC :

€100

or Bausenwein :
Image
"just" €179...

I have the MILTEC also:

Darker autum color, not the brighter green as usally Flecktarn has

but for Mrs. Housil we prefer US ECWCS w/ bear suit:

Hi,
I love my regular BW parka, that's really comfortable!
I had a Miltec flecktarn rain jacket (the old "pullover" type) but I found the material was too rigid, the front flap was not really wind/waterproof and the wrist straps were too short to be efficient. I gave it a friend’s son who uses it for airsoft
