In reading a little bit about this creative young man I found out he lives (at home) in Scotland, disrupts his household's kitchen for weeks on end (much to the enjoyment of his parents) during the "filming" of these videos, and writes, sings, plays and produces his own music. He answered a question concerning the pancake/crepe issue and stated that those were indeed "pancakes"....they're just made that way in Scotland (hey, who am I to argue? He lives there, I don't! ).
Another question regarded the choice of lemon and sugar as a pancake topping. He claims that that combination is very popular "over there". I'll have to try it sometime as I'm a pancake fanatic myself!
Yeah, I make pancakes and crepes all the time, easily the best breakfast food except for a perfect waffle. I'm not really considering any citrus on my breakfast though, thanks. Maybe with it, but I'm a milk man myself.
Does it sound closed-minded when I say things like I don't think the Dutch eat pancakes? I guess I'm really referring to what I consider a pancake, which what they cook in the video wouldn't count. I really don't mean anything by it, I just grew up with a friend whose parents were Dutch so i've enjoyed lots of good/interesting things, I love stroopwaffles, they're a great camping/backpacking breakfast item (or anytime), I like Indonesian food, I drink Heine and Grolsch... I just never really saw them make anything like what I considered regular food, and rolledups (crepes, I learned way later) were what we ate for breakfast over there. (powdered sugar and butter is the best way to eat them BTW.)

There's three kinds of pancakes:
The American thick pancake
The Dutch medium pancake/crepe (we call them 'pannenkoek', pancake makes more sense than crepe )
The French thin crepe.
Pancakes are eaten a lot over here. Especially by kids. I also eat 'em from time to time, usually the pre-made ones from the store. We even have special Pancake-restaurants. When eating in one of those places i take the pancake with 'stroop' (thick syrup) and bacon.

Not to worry though; The world will still turn!
Heh, I just hear this crap all the time from other people and realize I still regurgitate what I remember as if it's fact. Just because the people I know did something doesn't mean that all people do it, it'd be like saying Texas BBQ is all BBQ (it should be!). I just worry that I'm portraying Americans correctly in the eyes of foreigners when it's something I try to distance myself from. Of course, I really meant the distinction between the different kinds of pancakes, I suppose they can all be called pancakes; it's a Dutch word so I guess what we make is really a bastardization of theirs.
