Airlines & MREs w/Heaters in Checked Luggage

Post by NAAWildcat » Fri Jun 02, 2017 1:37 am

I quickly scanned as many topics as I could to find out if this question has been asked before but I didn't find anything.

So, does anyone know if there are airline restrictions on packing MREs with Heaters in checked luggage?

I am trying to decide whether to buy a Sure-Pak case of 12 MREs with or without heaters when I plan to take some of them with me on a flight to Florida to attend a reunion.

Any feedback is much appreciated.

As far as i know the Heaters are only allowed on planes if they are still sealed in the MRE Pouch.

Don't think I would try and use the FRH on a flight, though--people will probably think you're trying to set off a bomb or something.
I'm using my computer's spare resources to help find cures for diseases, analyze astronomical data, render 3D animations, simulate new materials and run climate models--what is your computer doing? http://boinc.berkeley.edu/ Or ask me for help!

NAAWildcat,

Packing MRE's in your checked luggage should not be a problem. I've done it before with no one noticing. Just don't use one while on the actual plane, like a FRH, like somebody mentioned earlier.

When I travel I try to hit up army surplus and survival stores. I've flown back with full MRE's out of several places. A few times in checked luggage, a few times in plane side checked luggage(small planes) and even on carry on. Never had an issue. However I've never started digging into one on the flight. As always fly at your own risk as you may find TSA has opened your stuff or kicked it off the flight.
