easy heating method for your mre at home

Post by Morwin » Sat Jul 27, 2013 4:41 pm

I was living in a very tiny apartment for several months. The place was a dive, stove didn't even work. I found that using an electric tea kettle to boil water and gasket sealed container just a bit larger than a entree and side dish made it very easy for me to have a hot meal. Put the meal in add the boiling water, leave an inch or so of space at the stop for the steam. clamp the lid down and you have a hot meal in 10 min. plus you get to save you mre heater for another day.

I agree, that is a convenient way to heat meals. I did try that with some main meals with a electric water kettle and got great results. I think another member here did try that same procedure with some Canadian IMP's. Kind of a portable way to heat MRE's and save your FRH for other emergencies.

I did it right in the tea kettle for once, just make sure to dump the water after that. Don´t drink it!

Agreed. I went camping at an all-electrical campground recently (meant for RVers, not tenters). Brought an old electric kettle and had hot IMPs all weekend.

Kettle is great

Let it heat, soon as click off add entree and close the lid.

If you want to use the hot water, take some before you add the entree bag.

This is the thread that speaks about its usage.
