I am really impressed with this
http://www.usariem.army.mil/pages/download/nutrigui.pdf
It looks essential reading for anybody planning long term usage of, or some serious hiking or backpacking using MREs or other current U.S rations as their major food source.
It was first drawn up in 2001 and doesnt mention the latest rations such as the FSR, but the basic information and nutritional and hydrational hints and tips are timeless, and the basic nutritional makeup for the MRE has not been changed much since that date, only the choice and variety
Contains lots of hints and information on optimising the rations and your own physical efficiency based on climactic and high altitude conditions. Loads of interesting and useful practical information.
If there is a current version of this, I will find and update the link.

The link appears to be broken, got a 404 Error. I guess I'm just late to the party.

Well, that post IS three years old. Probably past its inspection date, eh?

Very interesting and I found this line Nostalgic and as a father of two boys. It has extra meaning now

replacement for more nutritious rations.
