Spice Up Those Mre Entrees

Post by MreKampr » Fri Dec 16, 2005 5:56 pm

Being A Bachelor Guy i Often Cook For Myself
If I'm Tired or lazy ill open a mre entree and nuke it

What helps the flavor a lot for me anyhow
is to add around a tablespoon more or less of pre packaged
seasoning mix to the entree--mix and let set a few minutes
then nuke it.

Example:
sloppy joes--add lawrys or mcCormick Sloppy joe mix
Not The Whole pack just a bit
Chicken frajitas--Chicken frajitas mix

The Same With Other Entrees
There is Almost Certainly a seasoning mix Available
that will accent the flavor of all Mre entrees
Except mabee The Dreaded CCC

Once The Seasoning Packs are opened i store them in zip lock
Sandwich bags to keep them fresh.

Make Sure you shake the seasoning bag well to get a good blend
Sometimes i add a bit of Cold water and pre mix
before adding them to the entree

not a real great tips n tricks
but i wanted to contribute
hope this helps

I've wondered if you can nuke an entree in it's bag, or on a plate, is it plastic or metal? I think that the shiny sliver coating on the inside fools me.

I'm pretty sure there's a foil layer in the entree bag. I recall seeing a website a few weeks ago where someone put the whole entree bag in a microwave and nuked it - it wasn't a pretty sight.

Aloha! MreKamper. Yes, I like to spice up mres. When backpacking I prepare spices before I leave on a trip. I get a piece of paper and lay on the counter. I take dried garlic, red pepper, black pepper, onion flake and herbs....etc. and sprinkle on the papper. Then I get a empty film canister and slowly pour all the spices on the paper into the canister and viola.....T-Rex spice.

Sorry Dave, I can't spell. I was writting the word paper. I used 8x11 in note book paper to dump all spices on. You pick up the paper with the spices on it and use it as a funnel to pour in to the empty film cannister.

You will find my typing skills be berry berry badddddd.

I had a great Christmas. The wifey got me a pair of Steiner binocs for Christmas. I use binoculars a lot at work.

I am a married man! Tragic as it is, I do have to check our beaches in the summer for safety reasons (smile) to ensure all visitor being safe. Water safety is on of our top mission statments. Now.....using by binoculars helps cover more ground and get better clarity. (zoom in) Its a hard job.

HA!
