MRE Trick

Myself and a couple of buddies were sitting at work today eating MRE's and found out that you could light the fumes from the heating pouch on fire. Pretty cool trick. Just dont let it flame up to much. It will catch the bag on fire.

Yep they give off hydrogen, its a byproduct of the exothermic reation.

LOL, I have tried that too - outside. Yes, it burns. And yes, it tries to catch the FRH bag on fire.

On caution - the flame from burning hydrogen is almost invisible. Actually it does glow, but mostly in the ultraviolet. So be careful having fun with this, the flame might be larger than you realize.

Wow...first we had flaming beverage bases, then flaming creamer, and now flaming "flameless" ration heaters. Are there any MRE parts that don't have any possibility of erupting in fire? :-)

If you try to burn all of the wrapping material from an MRE, you'll probably have a good chance of not succeeding. :P
