Vacuum sealing to prevent decay?

Post by Fallout420 » Thu Apr 02, 2020 4:13 pm

Hello all, as my small vintage ration collection grows I have started to open some that I have duplicates of in order to add the contents to my display. Would it be okay to vacuum seal some of the contents to keep them from rotting once out of the can? An example is a package of charms hard candies from a lifeboat ration. I want to display them but am afraid they’ll begin to break down now that they are exposed to the air. Thanks for the thoughts!

I see your logic, and can't imagine why this would be a bad idea.

I had a similar question about resealing outter bags, I know a chef that has a pro vacuum sealer in his restaurant, where you can adjust the sealing temp. , i have yet to try it, but it can't hurt

I've done this with my Hershey Tropical bars, also stops further decay of the fragile wrapper. I just used a home vacuum sealer.

Happy to post pics if anyone wants to see how they look.
