Homemade MRE's

Post by sween1911 » Tue Feb 11, 2020 12:27 pm

Bear with me, not sure where to post this, but wanted to get some ideas.

I bought a box of US MRE's from ebay about 3 years ago. We eventually went through them over the years as the occasional lunch or a treat with the kids on the weekend.
My son is now hooked on finding more.

Thought it would be fun to make some up just for roadtrips or picnics or whatever around the house.
They'd be handy for storm weather to put a few in the vehicles.

Always bearing in mind shelf life and nonperishability of contents....
- use press and seal mailing envelopes for outer package
- small water/juice bottle or juicebox
- single-pack beef jerky
- fruit cup
- small pack or crackers
- granola bar
- accessory pack with plastic spoon, napkin, wet nap, pack of gum etc.
- Cyalume chemlight

Be fun to come up with a couple different "menus" and mix them up.

Whatcha think? Anyone ever tried this? Any ideas, lemme know.

Thanks.

Think I've seen boatloads of YT vids of Dollar Store MREs for the exact purpose you mention.

I do the same thing!

My MREs consist of Mountain House mains, lots of candy bars, smokes, matches, and other items I've enjoyed.

Combos are great! Lots of flavors available. Bugles would be good, but they get smashed too easily.

I use the larger ziplock bags. Transparent so you can see whats inside, plus a handy bag for emergencies.
