Greetings from England !

Post by vespa » Sat Jan 19, 2019 10:20 am

My first post.
I've been eating British Army MREs for 16 years on camp as an Army Cadet Force Instructor.

I have decided to experiment with international MRE.
To date I have acquired 24 Spanish MRE as they came in a job lot at an irresistible price
6 French MRE
5 Lituanian
2 Russian
2 Polish
1 US MRE

I'm just trying them all out to see which works for me.

I've already eaten
1 Lituanian (beef with groats)
1 US (Asian beef strips)
1 Spanish main meal (Galician stew) not started on the squid in ink yet ! I'm thinking about it.
2 Spanish breakfast

I think so far Spanish is very interesting, Lithuanian certainly reflects the country on homely food.

Which do you think is the best quality MRE in your experience ?

Dont worry about other rations, you already have 24 of the best ones 8) 8) JK :P

I'd recomend you try some EPa and swedish rats!!

Its hard to say which rations are the best... In the end it comes to personal preference...

True mate its personal preference. The Spanish MRE job lot worked out at £8.50 each.

I've ordered 2 Italian MRE which is on it way.

Be interesting to compare.

Saw lots of German EPA for sale online. No Swedish so far.
I guess they come and go as they become available.
The British pack pretty good, I would like it better if it came with a flameless heater.

I meant Danish not Swedish sorry XD
For my personal taste, polish rations are really good, i'm not sure about how well they perform on a combat situation, but for the food, top notch
Italian rations are nice but i think they are a bit overrated because they are hard to come by, even in Italy, and some of the menus have alcohol in them and that makes those special as there is no other country that does the same... But they have some good typical italian things, like the pork in gelatin
Try to get some freeze-dried rations if you've never had one, i'd recomend you the FD EPa types, also the Norwegian rations are quite popular but i personally dont like them that much, maybe its because of the menu I got... MCWs, the american artic rations are also quite nice... Its always interesting to try artic rations :D
The ORPs i like them quite a lot, for me they are a simple ration with a lot of food everybody likes, nothing is out of the ordinary but its a ration i feel that you could pick any menu and you will get something you like for sure, they are reliable in that sense... Although i'm sure after eating them for so many years you start to see the flaws

We do a lot of swapping ! Like you said theres always something you like in the ORP, we often swap with each other, I personally loved the beef jerky and swapped for them, there are some contents you just cannot give away as nobody likes them such as the fruit and nut mix its like giving away rocks

We always went home with a few extras to go through.
Chicken Korma or Jalfrezi is very popular with the troops.

Out of interest Carlos, have you served with the Spanish military ? Your English is very good.

Hi mate not yet tapped into the RCIR yet, its on my to do list. They do look interesting tho. I opened two, the rest are in their plastic seal, they look pretty impressive inside.

I haven't served, I've considered in the past enlisting for training as an army doctor but I ended opting for studying "civil" doctor(still working on that XD) you can go to the university with the spanish army but it's a bit complicated... I know some people in the army, and when I was a little kid I got a couple of times ration, and for me they where this super interesting cool thing you could eat... And that is why I have this hobby :)
From the ORPs (the only English rat I've tried, not sure if there are other different types) I like quite a lot the cocoa beverages, I've tried with mint and with orange, I think they are delicious, with the fruit bisquits, and the desserts and sweet breakfast, I love them
