2020 German EPA's
2020 German EPA's
I just received a full case of 2020 EPA's. When I saw the box, I immediately noticed that the case looked different, it looked bigger! When I opened the case, I saw why EPA boxes got much bigger now!
Unfortunately, I don't have any old ones to do a direct comparison, but the new boxes are bigger by at least 3 - 4 centimeters or 1.5" inches.
Most items are still the same as in the old Typ 4. Some components did change though. There is no dessert now, no muesli either. They have replaced those items with 2 bouillon packets and 1 beef jerky. I believe that there is a couple of menus that still come with dessert and muesli. We shall see when I get my 2020 EPA Typ 20 and Typ 21 and Typ 5.
Anyways, here is a few pictures

Most of the components are the same (compared with my 2015/2019 Typ IV EPa). The vendor for the cappuccino looks to be different and they have not longer the musli and the dessert. I think the beef jerky + the two vegetable soups are not a good deal instead for the dessert and the musli. But this is my opinion.
The desserts tastes very good and was a great moral boost for the soldiers.
It would be interesting to see the differences (and taste them) between the different "Hartkeks" vendors. It is quit possible that it is a marketing trick, because the name "hartkeks" for the biscuits was very famous.
There is still a butter substitute but it has some additional pepper flavor. May belong to the special Typ 4.

Had one of the new ones a little while ago. I think the little Zip Lock bag and the Boullion are a good improvement. Now you have something to store some left overs or beverages. To my opinion the should have sorted out the chewing gums. They have no taste at all. Instead some Mentos or something similar.
Tried lots of foreign rations from Europe and Northern America. Want to try Asian and South American rations

I was never a fan of soup/Bouillon . Nobody is cooking a soup in the fields!

Except for generations of German soldiers using "Erbswurst" pea soup. Nothing like a hot soup during a nightly fire watch. That's the only item I like about the reproduction or civilian EPAs, adding a beef bouillon cube.

Yes, back in WW2. Erbswurst was never issued to post WW2 rations.Demolition_Man wrote: ↑Wed Nov 28, 2018 2:53 pmExcept for generations of German soldiers using "Erbswurst" pea soup.
