Hi MRE Info

Unfortunately I was unable to procure these rations for myself, but the seller had some great pictures up on their listing. I did a search on the forums and could not find an entry so, submitted for your shared enjoyment, a 1998/1999 Australian Defence Force Emergency Flying Ration.

It looks like you get the metal prongs to turn the tin into a cooking receptacle like with I believe the Mark 9 British RAF Emergency Flying Ration. Considering the strong influence Britain has had on our Military it isn't surprising.

I can see some Redhead waterproof matches, a very iconic Aussie brand. Likely called greenlites because of the green heads weather resistant matches have.

A three fruits bar, two of which are visible as apricot and coconut. A 50gm bar of Army Chocolate, some crispbread biscuits, some water purification tablets and an apparently mummified pack of m&ms.

Now I wasn't able to see under the items in the tin, however I found another unbagged ADF ration set. In these images you can see the napkins laid out that are partially visible. It's possible there were some beverage bases and Juicy Fruit chewies (dropbear for Chewing Gum). The beverage bases are by another Aussie renowned brand Cottees and the snack bars are by Uncle Toby's, one of the bigger cereal companies in Australia.

Changes to the modern ration are Bega don't provide the processed cheese. Similarities are the condiments coming from NZ, where most products from ADF rations these days are from New Zealand.

**EDIT**I also noticed no beverage whitener be it instant milk or sweetened condensed milk and no yeast extract/vegemite. This may be due to the incomplete nature of the ration pictured.

I suppose what surprises me is the gusset pouch as Steves review of the 2000 CR1M showed cans were still in use. It's a shame that we can't see the contents of it and the poster of the listing doesn't seem to know or isn't saying.

Really wish I could have been doing a nice unboxing and review for you. Sorry to Steve1989, I would have loved to make this a thank you for getting me into MREs and Vintage Rations. But I'm sure I'll be able to find some great unique stuff to contribute going forward. I hope this is a good first post.
