Great pics! I have some of these but they're from the 1990s and the contents are in dark green packaging. I love those compressed food bars!

I'm just wondering why the package says:

CAUTION: if you have swallowed salt water, do not eat the soup and gravy base. :?

I'm guessing because maybe that would be way too much salt/sodium in your system. Anyone else have a better idea?

I agree. Both of the items mentioned are high in salt content. Add that to sea water and you would reach a very high salt concentration in your stomach. If it did not make you sick, it would draw water out of the vasculature resulting in dehydration.

Hi,
I see "Oklahoma league for the blind" on the box ... is it the maker's name?

Stef,
Yes in a way it is. That is the manufacturer's name that is under US government contract to make these packets. The US government contracts a few organizations that employ people who are physically disabled/handicapped in certain ways. This is something like a big goverment re-education/work force training program. It gice these people a chacne to earn a living and get some skills in life. In the government sector you can find a lot of item from pens to clocks to janitorial supplies made by an organization like this.
The food packets are under contract for the Dept. of Defense. Hope this answers your question.

Yes thanks, we have the same kind of organizations here but I don't think they make ration packs (but who knows...).

I have one of these from 2001 I think, I still haven't tried it though, I should open a bar and check the freshness of them since everyone seems to think they're pretty good. I wish they were more readily available, it would be great to have a case of them.
