So i was looking up Lancashire Hotpot on wikipedia since i had no idea what it was, and discovered that it is generally made with groundnut (peanut) oil. Does anyone know if the british army variety is also made this way? I was planning on giving it a try, but being made with peanut products would preclude me from eating it

So you have peanut allergy, dermeister025? Wow...if I had that, eating MREs/rations would scare the bejeesus out of me because you never really know for sure what's in them.

I don't recall - do the British entrees have the ingredients list on them like the US MREs?

that lancshire hotpot iss some kind of weird stuff in vanilla sauce, i had a couple, i dont really like them, they are dry inside and have a weird taste, best thing with it is the vanilla sauce...
but i am not sure what its made of

yes that's a steak and vegetable stew, not bad but there's no indication about the ingredients on the pack at all!

Yeah it's kind of an annoying allergy to have, was quite disappointed when i looked at the ingredients of the chocolate sports bar and had to toss it in the components box... That and way too many MRE's only give you peanut butter and not cheese or jelly.

It's never been a severe allergy over the years so i'm not really afraid of dying if i dig into the wrong meal, but i could do without bein ill... And my doctor recently gave me a huge long lecture on how variable allergies can be and absolutely insisted i carry an epipen... Eh, why not i figured... good thing to have, specially in the field. And i know a couple people who need a second shot if we can't get them to the hospital in 20 minutes.

Wayfarer food pouches are exactly the same as the MoD ones as far as I am aware. So if you look them up I believe they have ingredient lists. Although don't hold me responsible when you have to go to hospital!

The new rations have the ingredients on them, they have scary names like "MOD Chicken Sausages and Beans".

looks like the wayfarer ones use veg oil, and they specifically say peanuts are absent... that makes me feel a bit better!

With the prevalence of serious nut allergies you'd think armies would shy away from using peanut in things that aren't obviously nut products ie. choc sports bar. Wouldn't want any jokes about their soldiers getting taken out by their own rations!
